I have noticed a big spike in Cathinones being sold as Methylamphetamine. Reaching out to the community to hear your thoughts?
Since when did a real bag of Methylamphetamine smell like vinegar?
Years ago a BLer based in the US who was mixed up in the methamphetamine distribution scene posted a warning. Apparently said BLer and brother had gone somewhere to buy a 'weight' (no idea what that means) and his brother took a line to check it WAS methamphetamine and promptly had a seizure.
I'm guessing that at the time the cathinone wasn't controlled in the US and so was likely much cheaper. I suppose the message is my usual one. There are only three (fairly reliable) ways of knowing what a 'mysstery white powder' contains are:
1-Synthesize it yourself (while obeying all local laws).
2-Pay for instrumental analysis (GC-MS and NMR are most common but some Chinese vendots use X-ray Crystallography which alone is considered the 'gold standard'.
3-Stick to medicines that come from your local pharmacy.
Even GC-MS and NMR can sometimes be fooled - I know from experience.
I would add that if you are in Victoria or Canberra, you can bring your drugs along to your local drug checking service (CanTEST or the Victorian Pill Testing Service). Both will analyse substances expected to be methamphetamine and will be able to detect cathinones.
