So, methcathinone is pretty easy to make but to make very pure methcathinone is a different story.

I have what is likely some methcathinone and likely some byproducts and i am just wondering if anyone can relate some of their experiences with methcathinone (of high purity) to see if the experiences with it match mine. As well, i would like to know what dangers are involved in possibly vaporizing, insufflating or plugging an impure product. I am well versed in the cathinone family (the use of them anyhow) as well as plenty of stimulants.

My procedure involved oxidizing ephedrine and using lemon juice to hopefully produce methcathinone HCL but fuck knows what's actually in there! I don't want to get into the details of it but what are the possible byproducts of the oxidation if some of the popular oxidizers are used (h2o2, potassium dichromate, jones reagent, KMnO4)?

In the name of boredom i have tested my product through plugging and vaporization once; smells, tastes and feels a hell of a lot like mephedrone and 4-FMC but not near as speedy as ethcathinone, methylone or 4-EMC. I did one trial of plugging ~100mg and it felt a lot like mephedrone plugged but i fell asleep afterwards, which also happens to me with mephedrone sometimes so can't really say much about it other than it seemed to hit me.

For vaporization, it tastes and smells just like mephedrone and has a similar feel to it in terms of effects. I am well experienced with ephedrine and the high (if you could call ephedrine's effects a high) is distinctly different so i'm not simply vaporizing ephedrine, AFIAK. Effects noted at 20mg vaped - very similar to that of mephedrone at 20mg.

TL;DR: am i retarded for vaporizing this stuff? do i even possibly have methcathinone in the final product if all that was done was oxidation/filtering and adding lemon juice then evaporating? If not, what the hell might be in there?

Chromium and manganese are not good for you in large amounts if taken orally, IV'd, plugged, or snorted. Vapourising will leave most of the metal residue behind. The impact of Cr and Mn on humans is not good, Cr is a carcinogen and Mn can cause manganism (and does quite often in Eatsern Bloc methcathinone IV users).

Possible side products are... lots. Depending on the oxidiser. Overoxidisation to benzaldehyde (pistachio/almond type smell), conversion to benzoic acid, ring chlorination, oxidative deamination, oxidation to N-oxides are all possibilities, depending on conditions. Concentration of oxidiser, purity, temperature, solvent etc. Discussion of which oxidiser is the "best" is not really suitable for here, we don't want to encourage methcathinone synthesis. the Jones reagent and the manganese based oxidants are probably the most popular, but both result in products with considerable metal residue.

In theory at least, methcathinone could be purified by distillation of the freebase to free it from metal residues. Or maybe chromatography.

Using lemon juice won't produce HCl salts, it will make crude citrate salts, by the way.

Benzaldehyde is not the most harmful thing to watch out for when oxidizing methcathinone. It can be toxic, but the toxicity is very low and it takes a lot more of it to actually get poisoned. The easiest way to synthesize it is by oxidizing pseudoephedrine/ephedrine with Kmno4 and providing the right pH levels with 10% white vinegar. It is very easy to follow and quick to accomplish, but it's also easy to fuck up in the process if you don't know exactly what you're doing and how you're doing it. The key lies within temperatures and quantity. Some people falsely claim that Kmno4 is too strong for the synthesis, but it's been proven on report that methacthinone synthesized this way yields 67%.

The thing to watch out for is manganese and pseudoehpedrine/ephedrine left overs due to wrong quantity of oxidizer and leaving the solution for too long or filtering it too quick. Taking both methcathinone and pseudoephedrine will put a lot of stress on your cardiovascular system and heart, because of strong vasoconstriction caused by p-ephedrine.

Overall it's a good and safe drug, safer than most stimulants due to it's low neurotoxicity. Just be mindful of potential addiction.
 
thanks bros for the info; kinda figured as much. I definitely overoxidized my stuff, thought that smell was a good thing :) but oh well, not gonna play around with it considering there are better alternatives without risking my health.

Those people shooting m-cat were doing it for a mean of 4-5 years i believe, so i don't think manganism (funny word) is really a huge issue with your standard synth that is carried out across the world.

^thx for the info there; i don't particularly want to play around with Kmno4 in an apartment building so i'll have to leave this project to a future date when i'm old, have a house and can't source any drugs any more :)

67% yeild isn't bad, i'm sure a few washes could clean that up nicely - the thing i really want to know is if the high is better than mephedrone or ethcathinone. I know it won't compare to methamp or d-amp because cathinones just have a different feel but i'd still be interested to feel the subjective differences between ethcathinone, mephedrone, flephedrone, 4-emc and all those compared to methcathinone.

^in general, how much does heat/cooling play a role in getting a clean product? huge issue or non issue? nothing specific. Definitely don't want to encourage people to mess around with synthing stuff on here. For those that haven't tried, it's easy but not like a CWE easy. Some chemistry knowledge is definitely needed, especially knowing the difference between which acid would produce citrate and HCL salts :)
