- In a library, it's quite late at night (my school has a 24 hour library). Receive a phone call. "hey man, I know a good-looking girl who's interested in meeting you. I've told her about you and she wants to meet up." I reply that yeah, that sounds good, I'll hit her up tomorrow.

The next day we arrange a meeting outside a major department store. Out of a truck stumbles one of the most thwacked out looking chicks I've ever seen. Initially I think the whole thing must be a joke...she starts rambling about how she has some of the "best boosters" already in the store, and asks if I "need anything" because she's going to the next town over to score speed. I tell her no, I don't need anything.

To this day that 30 second conversation I had with her was the only interaction we've had, LOL. She disappeared back into her vehicle and took off, haven't seen or heard from her since. 8( Later on in the day I snort a massive line of methamphetamine at a public garbage dump, in a car with a couple other people who are shooting heroin, having a grand old time until we visit an associate's house where more IV heroin use takes place. Syringes and trash everywhere. Upon being tossed a syringe already filled with H, I say that I don't inject upon which my host declares "you lose!" and throws the needle to someone else.

- In a bar. Drunk. Want to get sober again...want to use stimulant drugs. Start a conversation with the guy sitting next to me, a homeless man who says that he can get me shards as soon as I mention the subject. We have to drive 10 miles away, though, and I'm already pretty intoxicated. But I get in the car with him and we go. I still feel guilty about this incident more than almost any other because I think drunk driving is a big example of irresponsible drug use, and I was pretty drunk by my own estimation. We eventually arrive at a filthy trailer nestled in some woods with a chain of trash and debris linking it to other trailers in the area. Open walking into the trailer I see an older man and a younger (middle aged) woman, casually dividing up a large pile of jewelry and other valuables on a bed, while a variety of hardcore pornography plays on multiple television screens in the background. The old man casually looks up at it once in a while but mostly seems interested in taking an inventory of all the shit on the bed. I tell him that I'll take a 50 before drunkenly passing out in a nearby lawn chair. I wake up the next day still intact, grab the 50 I bought (which had arrived sometime in the night after I'd passed out) and go home.

- In a cabin. I'd been hanging out with a kid who was well-known in the "underworld" of the city I live in, the son of meth traffickers who had done long stints in state prison for dealing. He was actively searching the carpet again and again and AGAIN for a large crystal he supposedly dropped on the floor a while back. This was the first (and to this date only) example of carpet surfing I've seen (although I guess there have been others where someone ACTUALLY dropped drugs on the floor, but that's different). He becomes more and more irate after receiving a phone call from someone he knew that a mutual acquaintance had been threatening his girlfriend, until he's assembling a crew of people to go over to aforementioned dude's house and rob him of everything he owned. He was going to do it, too...shortly before he and several others had kicked down the door of my next door neighbor* & robbed him blind, due to a debt he owed local drug dealers. He called this process "repossession". Also extremely adept at "boosting", which is a valued tweaker skill.

This individual claimed to have a cherished & closely guarded "family meth recipe" which he had long since committed to memory, had at the time been up for 3+ days already, & is presently doing 2 years for grand larceny, a true tweaker if ever there was one. At one point he turns to me, and I swear to god his facial expressions were usually so manic and gleeful that his eyes looked like they were fucking twinkling) and exclaims "hey you want in on this bro? It'd be a good come-up for you!" I tell him no thanks, I'm not particularly eager to add an armed robbery charge to my criminal record just yet.

*someone who also stole my car, prompting me to get some of my friends to go drive around looking for him, with the goals of beating his ass and retrieving my car...luckily car was eventually returned unharmed shortly afterwards. My next door neighbor operated basically a crackhouse, except instead of crack the drug was meth. He was the one who introduced me to the drug. In his apartment there were holes in the walls, rotting trash in the kitchen, trash and filth strewn all over the living room floor, and cars pulling up day and night to buy drugs from him, such a high volume of traffick that he was eventually evicted by the landlord.

I guess there wasn't much heroin in those stories, come to think of it LOL. I did do some H in the first anecdote, though. Normally I hate reading through addiction retrospectives but I just thought I'd post some moments in the recent past where I've seriously questioned my own presence in the illegal drug world lol. I refer to where I live as "the abyss" because I live in an extremely rural and harsh location, and when it's winter and we nearly get darkness 24/7 & below freezing temperatures, "abyss" is a good descriptive term.
