Hi all! this is a great forum. There are many knowledgeable contributors here. I know someone who has been using 75 mg Fentanyl patches daily for nearly a week. This person does so for recreational purposes. He or she has run out but has several 10mg Methadone pills. How many of these would he or she need to take to feel high. He or she does have a tolerance, and as was stated earlier, he or she has been using the patches for almost a week. Will this person even be able to get high off of the methadone with such a tolerance?

I thought Fentayl would be more powerful than methadone. I also thought Methadone had no recreational value but was merely for keeping withdrawals away. Is this incorrect?

-Fentanyl is more powerful than methadone. Methadone, like all opioids, does have recreational value. It depends on many things, however. For people without tolerance, methadone is considerably more recreational than a lot of other opioids.

We also don't use "SWIM" or "some guy I know" here while talking about ourselves (everybody knows its you anyway).

I'm going to move this over to Basic Drug Discussion since this discussion is beyond the scope of New Member Introductions.

well in order to gain 75umg of fentayl you'd need to take about 100mg of methadone. it won't really be the same high at all, and will be much longer lived with more side effects in my experience. oh, and when you take fent you'll need to probably take less due to methadones stupidly long half life, it can end up killing you. personally i don't find methadone a recreational drug at all, i used it to withdraw from opiates and it took away a lot of the symptoms luckily

try using 50 and work your way up to 100mg if you're not feeling it. remember less is more. you can always take more but never take less than you already have.

This! Of course methadone would have recreational value. It is an opioid agonist that binds to the mu-receptors in the brain and spinal cord. Modulation of that receptor is known to produce euphoria.

^Something I'd like to add, the extended duration of methadone can be overwhelming to those not used to it.
Also, Methadone takes about 2 hours to peak in non-frequent users, and a second wave hits you at the 3-4hour mark, so do not even consider redosing within this time period. It accumulates in your blood.

Methadone can be quite dangerous, specially when you're not used to it/don't know your mileage.

It is an opioid which has value for pain treatment as well as for withdraw management, but unlike other chemicals of its class, it doesn't has the same abuse potential, like the OP said, all it does is to help your WDs.

Be careful with its very long half life.

You did not state how this 'friend' was using the 75mcg/hr patches, or if there was opiate use prior to the week of using the patches. Regardless, a few 10mg methadone will *probably* not get you high at all. If I were in your (friend's) position, Id do a taper off using those few methadone pills and forget trying to get high from them. Not that we are alike chemistry-wise, but I have taken as much as 360mg methadone (9 biscuits) and barely felt anything.

Im going to assume you have 3 10mg pills; if that's the case, I would do the following schedule (daily doses): 5mg, 5mg, 2.5mg, 2.5mg, 2.5mg, 2,5mg, 1.25mg (x4 days), 0.5mg (x5 days), 0.25mg (x8 days). 0.125mg (x4 days), 0. That's a 27 day super slow detox on 3 pills. It's how I got off of H years ago, except I dragged mine out 2x as long, going below the .100mg mark (need a mg scale for this) to .050mg/day, .025mg to zero. I had no bad withdrawal symptoms.
