Is methadone like a standard opiate? I mean Ive never taken it but I have some 5mg pills so can I take one with a low tolerance to opiates and the next day be fine without withdrawals? Then dose again after a couple days or even a week later? Basically I was thinking since Methadone is a opiod and used for heroin addicts you might get withdrawal symptoms after a single use. Wasnt sure can someone just verify I can take it like I would a normal opiate. Thanks guys.

i have no experience from methadone and don't ever plan on doing so - as it is a very potent opiate despite popular belief and has a very long half life.

i know of a person (genuinely) who dosed 10mg of methadone and went into horrible withdrawal about a week later due to its long half life. she had never taken opiates before in her life - i think that methadone is a dirty drug and frankly dont understand why people are given it if they have a problem with opiates. it can be used recreationally as other opiates, but you can expect to suffer some unpleasant withdrawal.

Methadone can be a tricky one. For a lower tolerance I'd personally take 5-10mg. It's not too likely you'll experience opioid withdrawals from strictly OCCASIONAL usage.

Synthetix' post above aside, which I don't doubt but think is a most unusual reaction, assuming you don't suffer withdrawal symptoms from other opiates you might be using you're very unlikely to suffer any withdrawal symptoms whatsoever after a single use, no. The danger with methadone is the long half-life. Depending on your metabolism half-life could be anywhere between 15 and 60 odd hours, call it around 30 hours on average, so if you got into the habit of use for a day, take 2-3 days off, use for a day, take another short break, if you're dosing high enough you could continually have enough opiates in your system to be surfing a habit within a coupla weeks of it.

It's a pretty shitty buzz. Not especially recreational IME, having none of the usual opiate euphoria being pretty much pure sedation. Dose too high good chance you'll be projectile vomiting sick as a pig for a coupla days too. Not especially pleasant stuff. Remember the long half-life also means subsequent daily doses will be cumulative. Take 10 mg today, then another 10mg tomorrow for example and you're gonna have 15mg+ in your system. That way lies overdose territory. Treat with caution.

You can not get WDs from a single use of any drug ever, I'm pretty sure that the body will go back to homeostasis and no receptors will be down graded. *note the sudden use of big words so people believe me*

I am very confident in stating no drug can cause physical WD symptoms in the "I'm a drug addict" sense. You can feel off or odd after a heavy experience but being sick for 12 hours with a hang over is NOT being in WDs

And not to sound mean but I'm pretty sure I hear fire truck sirens from how bright and intense the flames from your friend's pants are burning. I'm trying to say she's a big fat liar! No one gets sick a week after taking methadone because it's long half life unless they are a junkie whose on it for being a junkie.

And for some of us methadone and suboxone keep us from using and keep us able to have normal lives. Sure we fucked up somewhere if you wanna get on a high horse but we are people too. If there's a drug that helps people get clean and all the risks and side effects are completely understood by that person they should be allowed to take it. I know people who have had their lives saved by support and medication. This is life we get one shot and to fix it is priceless these drugs are not dirty. Try having an addiction you want to end but can't for whatever reason.

Thanks guys, I plan on taking a 5 mg pill tomorrow, theirs no adverse reactions if I drank alcohol 24hrs before dosing correct? And the fact I took some Tramadol 48 hrs ago?

So long as you're not doing bottles of Scotch at a time alcohol will be out of your system 24hrs in. ;) Would want someone else's input on this cos never done it but single dose elimination half-life of 5-7 hours for tramadol and active metabolites, nearer 8 for extended release so should be ok 48hrs in too I reckon. Don't take either of them with methadone. Dangerous combination, methadone and alcohol for instance having a synergistic effect on CNS depression that's commonly responsible for overdose deaths. Even the day after dosing the meth you'll want to avoid them.

One more question guys, will the methadone basically leave me non functioning or able to walk at all? or for the most part when high Ill just be sittin their? I wanna try to be able to walk and not be to noticeable. Ill be taking 2.5 or 5mgs tops with a LOW tolerance.

You'll be functional at that. You're not gonna be nodding out, drooling, slurring your words or falling over or anything at 5mg. Only thing that might indicate you're on something would be pinned pupils, but they might not even be all that pinned. That would generally apply to the most opiate naive and unusually sensitive individual. That is NOT a recommendation you go any higher BTW. ;)

Definitely not my first opiate haha but I do tend to get pinned pupils often, thats fine though I have my sun glasses :), Im still trying to decide 2.5 or 5mgs lol, I hope im one of the lucky ones who gets alot of EUPHORIA, I havent taken a good opiate in month's, so again not even a beer or 2 when dosing? I probably wont but just wondering, as long as I can walk around and go outside to smoke some ciggs ill be taking 5mgs in a couple minutes just prepping haha ill be back to give my experience later, biggest thing is that I cant be nodding nd stuck I wanna socialize lol

I FEEL NOTHING off 5 mgs its been 4 hours already, I felt a slight warm type of glow an hour and a half in because I SLIGHTLY chewed it in a tissue. Can I redose now? I.barely feel anything!

Forget to mention the glow I was feeling gradually went away and at this point 3 hours later..I just feel slightly relaxed if thats not a placebo

Acute methadone dosing is roughly 3-4x stronger than morphine mg to mg. Chronic dosing i.e. a week or more is 7-10x stronger than morphing mg to mg. If you don't have a decent buzz off 5 mg, than I would imagine redosing would be the next step...

From a former speedball junkie (me, H and coke in same syringe), I find methadone to be pleasurable. It's long half life is a huge benefit in my opinion. Titrate slowly, as others have said because it's half life (essentially length of effectiveness) is longer than most drugs.

I would wait at least 2 hours between doses to ascertain your preferred dosage. From that point in the future, you are more likely to know your desired dose (given a reasonable cessation period).

methadone is a full agonist with a very long half life.... so if you "chip" every 2 weeks or every month you will get euphoric effects from it, but if you've never taken opiates before you will throw up the first couple of times....

It's not meant to be taken recreationally really, and has little rec. value if taken continuously (MMT), every 24-48 hours, after 1-2 weeks there is absolutely NO rec. value.... unless YOU up the dose (and your tolerance will follow)....

then allthough it's n ot especially cardio or neuro toxic, it's just plain addictive... oh nd it's CNS depressant so slows down motor function.....

in the long term, you'll either be in "liuid handcuffs" the rest of your life- cold turkey that shite (urgh... runny nose, bum, muscle pains all over, endless restlessness, no sleep and much mor "fun"......)- or taper, it will take ages and ages and in most cases thaat method leads to relapse IME.....
