I have no health insurance whatsoever so methadone is definitely ALOT more affordable to me than suboxone is, if i was to use suboxone i would have to rely on my friend's prescription and get them from him because his insurance pays for his whole script but if i wanted methadone i can get my doc to RX it for me but what would you guys recommend..methadone or suboxone for opiate withdrawal and what is the biggest difference between the two? also my second question is will i eventually have to go through the harsh opiate withdrawals or will the suboxone or methadone ease the withdrawals so they are not as intense like they are in the first week of withdrawal? i just do not want to experience the horrible withdrawal and if i hate going through something its definitely vomiting..also if it helps, my dose 120-150mg oxycodone for 1.5-2 months so far, so what dosage of methadone/suboxone would be about right for my dose?..thanks everyone i appreciate the help

also since i've been taking 150mg daily what if tomorrow i take 90mg and to that for a week then slowly lower my dose since i have about 50 30mg tablets left, will that help any?

Hi there,

This is something that you really need to discuss with your doctor. It's a personal choice which would be best for you. I'm not sure exactly what you are intending to use it for - maintenance, or a rapid taper down? Yes you do still experience WDs when you come off methadone or Suboxone - usually people go on them as opiate maintenance, then when they are ready they slowly taper down to minimise WDs. Sometimes people go on them and rapidly taper down over a week or so - you will still feel WDs but by tapering rather than stopping cold-turkey you aim to minimise the discomfort.

Usually people choose methadone for maintenance if they like the slightly "drugged" feeling and aren't ready to face the world feeling completely sober; people who don't like that tend to choose subs as they are more clear-headed. Some people just get on better with one or the other.

I'd check out this thread in Other Drugs, and post there if you have any more questions. This is quite a complicated topic which has been covered a lot before, and could lead to a long and subjective discussion which doesn't really fit with BDD, so I'm going to close it. If you have any queries feel free to shoot me a pm :)

Oh, and in the future if you have something to add to a post it looks neater if you click "edit post" rather than make a new one :)

Good luck with whatever you choose!
