I'm thinking about going on methadone for addiction but using it for a little help with pain control but mostly for addiction, it currently takes me about 160mg oxy to get rid of withdraw symptoms but would like to take about 6-800 mg oxy a day, so i figure that when i get to around 100-140mg methadone i should be happy. Anywaysmy questions go out to ppl with methadone experience.
I would like to know in your expeirence
A) What opiate and how much of it were you taking a day
AND
B)What dosage of methadone did you find that you were absolutly comfortable with for a 24h period.

I greatly appreciate your input as it will be great help in looking forward to what i'll have to deal with. Thank you very much.

Was on Methadone for a year from a 120mg a day Oxy habit, was up to 95mg's but 50mg's would hold me nice, getting off of it was a bitch though.

started arounud 20mg. it got me high for the first two months (wasnt getting high on poppies because of tolerance) due to incomplete cross tolerance

i had been taking ~6-10 tablespoons poppy powder per day, with 600mg cimetidine, for a few years

however it would never seem to last 24 hours. the clinic wanted to just keep increasing the dose till it lasted all day. obviously, since i went up to 98mg, i increased my tolerance via the clinic. oops. well it felt pleasant :P but it never lasted all day so i had to "cheat" and take a small poppy dose each evening so that i was covered all day. when i cheated i was able to lower myself easily to around 40, i probably could have gone lower but i then switched to subox

i switched to suboxone since i am able to break up the pill and take it all around the day. however, suboxone is very different, ive never felt any good feeling from it, and i feel speedy as if some withdrawal is still going on in my brain. i actually would prefer methadone 2x a day, but they suck with so many govt regulations, and wont hand out take home doses if you test positive for pot

I had a pretty similar habit to yours when I used methadone for a while, 600-800mg oxycodone. Youre sort of right on the methadone dosage, may need more than 100mg to feel comfortable. Even at 140mg's you may not be totally "comfortable" but it should get you by. I was also splitting my doses up because I noticed the effects do seem to wear off at about 8 hours, no matter what is claimed, it sure didnt effect me for 12+ hours. A 30-40mg dosage 3 times a day would be a nice place to start, but you may need 50x3times a day.

Similar to the above - never lasted 24 hours for me and never felt truly comfortable at any dose but it's better than clucking. Bupe pisses from a great height over 'done for maintenance/withdrawal, in my experience but others have better luck with 'done. Withdrawal from it is an absolute bitch though and I also found it made me deeply depressed and kept me addicted to opi's for many years more than I needed to be. I was on it on and off (mostly on) for around 10 years at various doses up to around 100ml for a pretty heavy heroin habit.

Methadone has been a life-saver for me. I started on methadone in October of last year and am going strong, currently on 160mg/day and it is doing well in holding off the majority of my cravings and withdrawals for 24hours.

My tolerance pre-methadone was quite strange... in 2007, I was having to take 1.5-2g of morphine sulphate (MSContin) 2x a day orally (so a rough 3-4g of MSContin per day) to be 'stable.' I tried taking more on certain occasions (such as shooting up 5-6 MSir 30mg; 120-150mg of morphine IV) on top of the 1.5-2g of orally ingested MSContin. Besides the rush, I didn't get much of a high... and when my tolerance was this insanely high I mostly took the morphine to feel 'normal', because it was almost impossible for me to get high.

During 2009 and before I got on methadone, my tolerance to morphine (oral) was only about 600-800mg/day, because I took a long break from using opioids in 2008 and I wasn't using often in 2009.

So far MMT has been great. I'm able to live my life and I feel how I felt before I ever did any opioids/drugs. It's amazing not having to worry about my addiction anymore/worry about using drugs anymore.

was taking 150mgs percs a day. Doc put me on 20mg methadone and no withdrawals. However, I did have nausea and a lot of swelling in my hands. the doc said it wasnt related but when I tapered down and got off the methadone it all went away. Havent had anything in about 2 months and so far so good

I don't understand why so many people here think that MMT isn't as 'good' as suboxone/subutex (buprenorphine.) In my opinion, bupe didn't do shit for my cravings and I ended up shooting the Subutex tablets; not very great for maintenance. Sure, bupe is better than methadone for detox, but for maintenance, methadone is much better than bupe especially in the craving control dept.

Most people think that they can control their addiction without having to use ORT (opioid replacement therapy.) This stereotypical 'arrogance' of the addict makes the majority of addicts 'hate' methadone; because methadone is a LONG-TERM opioid replacement therapy and isn't made necessarily for short term like Subutex/Suboxone is/can be used for.

Also, I notice that the majority of addicts who complain about methadone/MMT got on methadone not realizing that it is a long-term therapy and weren't ready to make the commitment that MMT requires before getting on it. These people usually don't understand the dynamics of addiction and think that they won't relapse and will be perfectly fine if they got off of methadone... which is 100% wrong. Instead of obsessing over controlling and treating their addiction, the majority of these people 'dissatisfied' with methadone obsess over trying to taper off/get off of methadone, thereby making their addiction treatment useless.

The fact is, the majority of times when the addict is off of ORT, they relapse. But the addict keeps thinking that it's 'better' for some weird reason to not take any opioids and battle their addiction 'sober', even if it means many relapses and many withdrawals, instead of taking methadone. The mindset of addicts are strange... myself included, lol.

Horses for courses is all - some get better relief from bupe and some from 'done. I'm well aware methadone is for the long haul - was on it for ten years - but the dose only ever went up cos it just never felt right. It didn't hold me, I craved like crazy and I felt generally pretty shit. I switched to bupe (two years maintenance then a slow taper to being free from strong opiates ever since) and I felt great, my depression lifted after many years and a single dose kept me comfortable for up to three days. The difference to me was like night and day. Others find the opposite to be true. Every addict has to find what works best for them really and for me there's simply no competition but if methadone works for you then great - stick to it cos it's just as much of a livesaver when it works as it should :)

I was doing 2-3 grams of heroin per day when I start MMT. They started me at 30mg increasing 5mg per day until i got to 75mg. After that I decided it wasn't quite enough, so I talked to the doctor and i increased 5mg/day until i got to 95mg. I'm pretty comfortable where I'm at right now. My clinic recommends when you want to start tapering off to go down 1mg per week. Best of luck to you ;)

"shit sorry I quoted the wrong post here...but I was directin this at the dude who said hes got a 600-800mg oxy habit and hes about to get on meth"

I think with your habit you would feel OK..like not throwin up at 100mg but I have a feeling you are going to level out around 150-180ish.

Honestly though...PLAN on using for the first like 2 weeks or more of you rtreatment because by law they can only start you at 30mg a day...and they will probably bump you at MOST by 15mg every day unless you are really really fuckin lucky, but no matter waht dont expect mor ethan 30mg which prob wont do shit the first day

plan on using, thats all I gotto say, for a few days. LOL when I started I was so fuckin sick the first day. i was doin dope sniffin like around 2-3 buns at MOST a day which is prob a lil less than the amt of oxy you were doin. but anyway i was so sick the 1st day... like throwin up at the clinic and shit.

after I finally dosed my 30mg I immediately sniffed 6 30mg oxyir's and felt good enough to talk on the phone..went to work threw up one more time, but made it through the day. Only had to sniff lke 5 bags of heroin at night and I was feelin gnot only ok but a little high even.

by the time I was at 50mg I felt "ok" without using any dope, but def not sociable and "right"

now I am at 80mg, and I feel pretty good then by the time its like 7pm I feel like less talkative and lethargic...so I dunno if my dose is too low or what..but I dont really wanna keep goin up n up
