I'm new to this blue light so Ihope I'm in the right section. I have been abusing oxycodone for 6 years. I basically do about 90mg orally and want to be done with the control it has over me. My last oxy dose was 5 days ago as I came across some methadone, 4mg. I had 3 of them and split them in half took 2mg the 1st morning and 2mg that evening, did the same the next day then did 2mg on day 3, day 4 did nothing and was fine (a little rls) day 5 took 2mg day and nothing on day 6. I have one more 2mg left but I'm wondering if WD's are just waiting or will I be ok? Any info would be greatly appreciated...Icant take time off work and Ihave a 6yr old son so Icant check into any treatment. Thank you

I don't know the answer to your problem but if you have been an addict for 6 years you can't just say you want to get off the drug but then lay down the law on what you CAN'T do. You might HAVE to take time off work. Also, if you don't know the implications of coming off the drug, eg; what you are going to be like, then you might be putting yourself and your son in danger if you don't seek treatment. Nobody knows what the withdrawals are going to be like because everybody is different. I imagine that coming off ANYTHING after 6 years is going to be pretty harrowing and not easy.

Beating an addiction isn't something that is going to work itself around your schedule. If you are going to be sick to death, throwing up, hallucinating then you aren't going to be able to go to work and you are going to have to get a babysitter for your son. I am not saying that is what's going to happen but you can't lay down the law when you are coming off drugs. If it was that easy harm reduction sites like this wouldn't exist. We'd all just cheerfully go cold turkey and carry on with our day!

If I was you I would go see your doctor and see what advice they can give.

Yes, go to the doctor. A psychiatrist can help you. Find a good one and let he/she know that you are Opiate Dependent and he/she will help you if you are completely honest (and the doctor is compassionate, of course!).

Good luck friend. I have worn those years old shoes myself...

You mean you took 40mg? There are no 4mg methadone pills.

Sorry to say it, but you will definitely going to feel withdrawals even from tapering down to 20mg of methadone, which isn't exactly a low dose of methadone IMO.

I would go to a doctor as the person above me mentioned if you really cannot miss work, because I have quit similar habits before and there is no way in hell one could go to work.

Yea, he/she is probably taking 40mg wafers... If this is the case (as it most likely is), then you're gonna need some help buddy. I was looking at it thinking wow, this guy's already through day 3 with a few mg's of methadone...really? No. Not really. Good luck though man, as you can do it alone (but you won't be able to work, much less eat or move around freely, or have a normal bowel movement or keep from sweating out all your fluids, etc.), or you can go to a doctor, because you have a serious addiction that will cause serious PHYSICAL withdrawal symtoms. Nuf said.

I have one more 2mg left but I'm wondering if WD's are just waiting or will I be ok?

Yes, WD's are just waiting. The reason you haven't felt 'em yet, is because you are taking methadone. Methadone has a MUCH longer half-life than oxycodone, therefore is stays in your system longer and withdrawal from it can be much longer too...

Gabby, I'm assuming your doctor prescribes these but you didn't specify. You could ask your doctor to switch you to suboxone. I know many people here who have gotten their lives back. Or as someone else mentioned, get an appointment with a psych doctor and they can help you with getting suboxone. Either way, think how good it will feel when you are no longer a slave to these drugs and most importantly, quality time with your son. Do you have family that can help you with babysitting? I wouldn't recommend you trying this taper on your own.

I have done a oxy - methadone taper many times. The physical withdrawl symptoms for oxy last 5-7 says. That is the worst part. I would try and go to an NA meetings to get some outside support. You will have missed the worst of the physical symptoms. You need to deal with the mental aspects of a 6 year oxy addiction. NA meetings a far the best and the most affordable. Don't get addicted to methadone or subs!!!

Thanks for all the advice and I just wanted to say that I wasn't "laying the law down" I was simply stating what my limits were. I'm VERY happy to say that I am doing AWESOME and it was nothing like I had experienced in the past!! I followed the Thomas Recipe and used L-Tyrosine and thought about my 6yr old and I am honestly soooo happy!! I'm absolutely going to do the NA though!! So once again thank you to you all!!

I'm so glad to hear this Gabby. You can do this! Stay strong and definitely try NA meetings for reinforcement.

If its the 40mg wafers than yeah, withdrawal is likely waiting for you within the next 24 hours or so. When you taper with methadone it's best to start at a maximum of 30-40mg and then ween off within a week, jumping at 2.5mg or so.
