Methadone/Suboxone question

Just out of curiosity, if you're in a methadone clinic or whatever, and you're getting this, is it made to get high off of? Or is it like taking tylenol just for withdrawals. I don't exactly understand the concept.

If you use it at the prescribed dose, are you supposed to get high?

Some do. Its maintaining your opioid dependency... some people take doses that do not impair them and just "hold" them and help manage their craving while some get strong effects from it and are nodding as a result. Even if people ARE nodding from it, it won't be on par with the euphoria produced by heroin or other commonly abused opioids.

The general purpose of methadone is not to give you high but usually to help people so they don't feel miserable and racked with craving when they are without opioids so they can get out of the junkie lifestyle and function relatively normally since they are more stabilized having the steady source of methadone daily.

People come in with different dependencies. Some people are shooting a couple grams of dope a day while some were taking 40mg of oxycodone a day. The person with the lesser dependency is going to feel the effects of the Methadone once they reach higher doses. But the purpose is maintenance, not to get you high, however some do feel euphoria and sedation. It doesn't always depend on the severity of your addiction though because I was doing 240-320mg of OxyContin and was able able to feel quite good on it.

Methadone is used recreational, as it is a full mu-opioid agonist which means it has great potential for abuse. Before I was using so much I tried Methadone recreationaly and got quite high, very sedated and euphoric.
