Hey so I just moved back east to NYC surrounding area after being in California Silicon Valley area for a decade.

I got on methadone for a week in California but stopped and went to a rehab so I could handle moving east better, and got on methadone here on the east coast.

I was told that in California they used the LAAM methadone and someone told me it’s the levomethadone that they use.

I asked over here in east coast they told me it was racemic so 50% levomethadone 50% dextromethadone.

I remember being rather surprised to hear that LAAM was being used as I thought it was outlawed in the 90s in much of Europe but I always wanted to check it out and it sounded like one could even skip dosing days because of how long LAAM would hold you once your dose was high enough.

Is levomethadone the same thing as LAAM? Is the racemic kind I get half LAAM? Using search engines left me confused and without clear answers. I figured someone must know this on blue light for sure.

If that’s true then LAAM is legal in US; and I would assume that especially with higher daily dosing the build up in your system would lead to a very different experience than traditional racemic methadone the higher up the doses get. That would mean that addiction treatment options are very different medical conditions for different clinics.

So is LAAM and levomethadone the same thing? Is LAAM currently in use by west coast methadone clinics?
