The pits of hell
I am looking all over google and I can't find a decent conversion chart... What is the stregnth of methadone in comparison to Oxycodone. Also due to Methadones long half life can you dose every other day and not get sick and still get pain relief? The reason I ask is I have some methadone 10mg pills. I wanted to give it a try because I have access to alot more for free. In case I run short for a month or whatever. So if I took a 10mg Methadone how much oxy would that be equivalnet to?

methadone is interesting to me because while it doesn't provide a rush or extreme short-lasting euphoria like oxy, It makes me feel really upbeat, euphoric, social, and completely pain free for a about a day and a half. Also at the end of the day I can smoke a joint and nod out with no problems. This may be due to the fact that I take 60 mg at a time and only do it once a week.

My friend takes them for chronic pain (over 200mg a day) and feels no pain whatsoever, and has not felt any for the past 4 years. She can also take two days off with no w/d symptoms, and then take her regular dose and feel incredibly high and euphoric.

However these are just two people's experiences. Some say methadone is no good. I think it is great for long-term pain relief and for those who are constantly chasing a high that continuously seems to be wearing off.

BTW I prefer methadone over any other opiate hands down. Some find this strange. For me the key is moderation in use and finding the maximum dose without risking o.d.

Methadone is a nightmare. Believe me I was on it for 2 1/2 years and you are a slave to it. When the time comes and you want to get off of it, forget about it. It's next to impossible.

yeah ive heard nothingood about being on methadone...

if u take methadone for a month u could screw urself over...

i hear WDs are the worst, and impossible to get off

I hate hearing and reading shit like this. DONT fuck with methadone like a recreational drug. you could easssily od. 10mgs is would make someone with a 80mg oxy tolerance uncomfortable

i was on 200mg morphine /day and 90mg methadone suficed largely...

"i hear WDs are the worst, and impossible to get off" ... i tapered slowly, and it was difficult but not impossible

Nothing is impossible. The key is tapering slowly and taking your time, with the help of a few prescribed drugs. If you're followed by a doctor, the tapering can be close to painless.

heres what i found on BL " * 10mg Oxycodone PO
* 6-8mg Hydrocodone PO
* 12.5-15mg Methadone PO
* 20-30mg Morphine PO
* 50-60mg Codeine PO
* .5-1mg Buperenorphine Sublingual
* 10mg Oxycodone Intranasal

That sorta points out the problem with opiod conversion charts. No two are the same and many of them are just plain wrong. 10 mgs of oxy is equal to 6-8 mgs hydro? Or 15 mgs methadone? WTF, that makes no sense at all.

I've tapered off of it the last few months because I have a new PM doc and we're getting to know each other. Tapering off is not a joke, but it's doable (hots/colds, mild w/d). I don't really want to be on methadone for a long time so I'm experimenting with what I can get away with and how it works.

It's by far the best drug I've taken for nerve pain though, so I haven't decided yet. I have several serious spine conditions and my anti-PM HMO requires much hoop-jumping. I'll spare you all the details though. (It makes for a long boring post.)

I get nothing recreational from methadone so I can't give you a conversion to oxy. In fact, I'd say it's the complete reciprocal of oxy. No energy, no effects, nothing but not sick. Which is fine, it's another reason I'm open to trying it.

I just wish it didn't depress my mood so much. It keeps me from being sick and allows me to walk and work. I go from no effect to tired to asleep on the shit. I'm on 30mg a day now, but have gone up to 60mg and down to 0mg (obviously).

* I do recommend having some around to keep you from getting sick. Works great for that even at really low doses.

Background (tl:dr)
It's a long story with this doctor and his Soviet adherence to methadone… (He is Soviet Doctor Building pain Management through Socialism. He looks just like Stalin, same mustache, same pockmarks… I'm looking for Molotov in his back closet.)

The only thing he offered me for long-term pain was methadone. That's it. And I had 2 long conversations in which I clearly stated my fears about being dependent on methadone, the depressive effects, etc. His adamant response is that it's easier to taper off methadone than almost any other PM drug. Mmm-hmm. Thanks.

You can easily get sick from Methadone. I gave a friend some and he was puking all day long. I was hoping to God that he didn't OD (or it would have been on my head...cuffs on my hands for a long time). I gave him roughly 25-30mg (it was liquid) w/o tolerance and I thought that wouldn't be too much but I was wrong. I'd consider 10mg of Methadone equivalent to 20-25mg Oxycodone. Absolutely not 40mg.

It feels really nice though in my opinion. I was on maintenance for a solid 1 1/2 years but in the past I had tried it and I nodded hardcore. Felt very relaxed, euphoric and highly sedated. In my opinion it is one of the most sedating opiates...behind Morphine & Heroin. Great for pain also. You really do have to be careful though with the dosing. Knowing your tolerance Violenza, I'd suggest 15-20mg. That should be enough.

Oh basically I have 10 of them at the moment and I am keeping them around for emergencies so I don't get sick. That's why I was asking. I don't want to use it recreationally. Just for pain/WD purposes if I run short on a particular month.

Thank you for all the info.

Yeah, I'm in the school of thought that many Opioid conversion charts are marginally accurate, at best, and often very misleading, if not flat out wrong. I feel this is especially true when it comes to conversions of Methadone and Buprenorphine; people often have drastically different opinions of what dose of Opioid X is equivalent to said dose of Opioid Y.

In my opinion and experience, I'd say 10mg of Methadone is subjectively equal to about twice that amount of Oxycodone- from 15 to 22.5mg.

I'd avoid it as much as possible, it raises tolerance for some people just like subs sometimes do. Not to mention it gets stored in fat cells and some say it even gets in to your bones. Needing the meds for chronic pain makes it much harder to continue to get the pain relief when tolernce is always going up. I'd agree with the 10mg mdone =20mg oxy, much like sub though, different doses will depend on the individual. Conversion charts aren't all that acurate.
