Methadone Question

bludragonfly said:
I strongly disagree with that statement. I spent 2 weeks in a hotel room praying to die from Methadone WD (then spent 2 more feeling like shit). If you want to stop using opiates, just suck it up and stop. I know that sounds harsh but believe me it is not nearly as harsh as the agony of methadone WD.

How high was your dose when you stopped? If I understood rachamin correctly he was speaking about slowly reducing dosage, which is how methadone maintenance programs do it.

I have none in my system, the judge for my drug diversion court is putting me on MMT for my cravings and for the fact i honostly can't live with out opioids yet....

I need to stay clean and i can't slip up, i rather be addicted to methadone for a year then goto prison for 24 months.. that's the way i see it, thier only going to put me on a small dose and im not going up at all...

thanks for all your inputs guys.

Some people handle WD's differently. I've known people that had a 6bag iv habit, and they'd shrug off WD's...
IME, methadone wd's are shitty, especially if you're droppin' off from a high dose, 100mg+. They may not be as severe as heroin wd's, but after a week you'd wish you were going through h wd's.

Methadone and cold turkey are by no means the only options.

No. 30 mgs is a pretty low dose for somebody that is an opiate addict. 30 mgs won't give you any kind of buzz, sorry. I have been on methadone maintainance and got up to 80 mgs, which still isn't huge, some people were taking twice that at my clinic, but at 80 mgs I didn't even get a buzz. I just got kinda tired about 3-4 hours later. That's about it. But, if you take a decent dose for your tolerance, you can get a buzz just like w/ any opiod. Just don't go into methadone maintainance thinking that you are gonna cop a free buzz everyday, cuz it ain't gonna happen like that.

Also, if you have been off of opiods for 3 months, i would not suggest getting on methadone. It is a huge pain in the ass. Yo uhave to go down there everyday and wait in line to get your dose. That doesn't even take into account the doctor's appts and counseling appts, the groups and the fact that most people who work at the clinics are assholes that treat you like shit.

In fact, I don't think they will even let you on if you have been clean for 3 months. I switched from 21 day detox to maintainance when I first started. They told me that when I went in to get on the maintainance, if the only drug I had in me was methadone, I would be disqualified. Idiotic, I know. But if they wouldn't let me transfer, w/o pissing dirty, you don't look good. Also, they look for track marks. I really do not think they will let you on and even if they do, I don't think it is a good idea. Methadone is very hard to get off of once you are on. The WD's last forever.

admittedly this came after a rapid (3 weeks) detox from 180mgs:o . But the problem is that once you are on methadone, you are at the mercy of often poorly qualified people who hate their jobs (IME with 4 different clinics, profit and not for profit). I agree (grudgingly), that it can be the only option for some. If you must do it at least only do it if you definitely are done with recreational or addiction use, and have a plan to keep your dose as low as possible.<3

Will you get high? Depends on what you consider "high" to be. If you mean heavy sedation, as in nod, yep. If instead you mean "euphoria," as most opiate/opioid users do, the answer is a resounding no.

It is impossible to gain euphoria from methadone due to its chemical structure. To suggest that it si no different than any other opiate/opioid in this regard is plain incorrect.

This is one of the huge reason why OST was green lighted in the fist place.

"Don't do it." Do not listen to others, even me. You need to decide fro yourself. Is your life spinning out of control? Are you tired of trying to come up with your daily fix? Methadone might be perfect for you. If instead you have a very light habit and/or little time as an addict, you might wish to look into Bupe/Sub, another from of OST.

It is not 10 X worse. The withdrawal is at least twice as long but it is very, very mild compared to heroin withdrawal.

"Only get high for 2 or 3 weeks..." Also wrong. If your idea of a high is a nod devoid of euphoria, one stabalised you will continue to nod for more than a year, sometimes alot longer.

Yeah, driving to the clinic and all the related rigermorole is a pain but is it less pain than hustiling everyday and knowing that most days, after you take that "wake up," you will be hard pressed to get money before the sickness that will inevitably hit you after a mere 4 to 6 hours. I found methadone, even with the clinical nonsense, to be much better than going through that hellhole of hit and miss everyday.

Methadone enabled me to live a very "normal" life. It has helped many others as well. The thing that turns people off is the long withdrawal but that is mostly based on old wives' tales.
Buddy methadone produces legit euphoria, imagine sounding so pompus and being so confidently wrong. It's not a full blown euphoria like H but there's definetly some good times to be had.
