Methadone lowered tramadol tolerance

Friday morning at 6am I ingested 10mg of methadone to avoid tramadol withdrawal. Dosed another 10mg four hours later as I wasn't completely stabilized. After the re-dose I felt completely normal. Okay, maybe a little better than normal, but euphoria was very subtle from methadone for me.

Saturday morning I woke up with a little withdrawal, but not too much. Took 5mg of methadone. Chose lower dose due to methadone's long duration of action. The 5mg stabilized me further. I could feel withdrawal beginning to creep up again later Saturday night. I was quite shocked.

Sunday morning (today) I wake up feeling pretty uncomfortable from withdrawal. I dosed 100mg of tramadol (my usual daily tolerance is 200-250mg). And I am flying. Much higher than I have been on tramadol in a long time.

I have successfully lowered tramadol tolerance before by abstaining and using weak agonists such as hydrocodone, but I did not expect methadone to lower tramadol tolerance.

Am I a freak of nature?

Methadone has a very long half life, perhaps what is still in your system is combining with the tramadol to make you higher.

If that is the case, hopefully it is a small amount of methadone still active because I do not like to combine drugs. I assumed much (if not all) of the methadone was no longer active since I was feeling pretty ill from tramadol withdrawal this morning.
Also, Drugbank mentioned that methadone will weaken the effect of tramadol by decreasing active metabolite production of tramadol.

Tramadol WD's are more than simple opiate WD's, so I wouldn't be surprised if a little methadone in your system wouldn't fully stop them.

I considered this with tramadols unique, dual mechanism of action, but methadone was pretty good at pausing every wd symptom, even when I could feel blood levels slowly dropping the day after my initial doses.

Perhaps my body can eliminate, or metabolize methadone a little faster? If methadone's reaction to fat is true, I weigh around 145-150 ilbs with low fat. Could that alter or speed up metabolism? I am pretty new to methadone and it's all interesting as pharms typically are. I am aware that methadone has a very slow metabolism and it is extremely complex.

As above, if the 100mg of tramadol I took four hours ago is mixing with any remaining methadone, I hope it's not much. I definitely don't feel anything threatening, but mixing drugs isn't something I do. Unless its cannabis.

I don't think the cross-tolerance from 'done to tramdol is as great as it would be with other more tradition opiates/opiods. I don't know the complexity of it, but due to its unique dual action and the fact that tramadol probably tickles a number of different receptors, unique to tramadol, methadone wouldn't fully curb w/d. Tramadol is a very weak drug in the first place, so methadone is a little excessive for a tramadol addiction.

Someone else should be able to give you a more educated answer I am sure. But since you seem to be getting more bang for your buck now, that is good for sure.

Wow.....that is like shooting heroin to take care of a codeine habit......

Be careful with that bro. You are better off suffering through WD than getting hooked on done.

And for someone with as little tolerance as you have I am 99.9% sure that the methadone is still going strong in your system, that is why the ultram feels so good.

Don't take any more methadone please, you are way to opiate naive for that. It could ruin your life in a big f'n hurry.........trust me.
