Methadone is making me fat

I weighed 110 pounds as a 27 year old 5 foot 10 inch man/child? when I first walked into the clinic at the end of April. I broke 180 pounds on the grocery store scale today. That's 70 pounds in 9 months for those of you keeping score at home. With no sign of slowing down I am well on my way to obesity. Its really funny because for years I was scary skinny. Like people honestly thought I had cancer or AIDS kinda skinny. I just cant win for losing I guess. Oh well bring on the diabetes!

I'm single so I have to control my weight -- I went through something similar when I turned 30. I was very muscular but I started to get fat, and I had to take up hard core cardio like marathon running and century bicycling and skiing to keep it under control. I gained an emaciated appearance, sunken cheeks and all, but after taking up heroin, I started to get fat yet again, despite the exercise. Opiates just slow my metabolism. I have quit opiates except for weekends and continue to exercise. My weight is under control again, but I have to exercise and not over eat. The minute I stop, I start getting fat.

Yeah people always warned me that my metabolism would slow as I aged but I didn't know it would be so drastic. It's funny that heroin makes you gain weight I spent years on suboxone and heroin never gaining a pound. It's just this methadone stuff that does it.

I need to cut back on sugar and start exercise but the weather sucks right now and I'm lazy. My old excuse was that I was too skinny for regular exercise. That one isn't too believable now. I'm just kinda lazy :/

It's tough. When I was 25, I took it for granted that I would always have low body fat no matter what I ate or did. I had no idea how much my metabolism would change with age and in only a few more years. Then when I took up opiates, it was worse. Heroin gives me the munchies and tends to make me not want to exercise.

I've noticed that methadone tends to make girls fat moreso than guys. I've been on it for 6 years and I'm skinny. I know tons of people at the clinic that have gained lots of weight because of the methadone....it just goes with the territory my friend.

Yeah from what I read weight gain is a pretty normal issue. Next time I go to the doctor I am going to get my hormone levels checked as I feel like "I have low testosterone. All the weight I have gained has gone strait to my ass! Also my nipples are very tender and have little ball feeling things in them that seem to be growing. I am fairly certain those are symptoms of low T.

Thanks for looking that thread up for me Socko! Some good advice is in there. I plan to buy gym membership soon in order to turn some of this fat into muscle.
