Methadone high - safe dosage question

In my head
I take methadone on a daily basis, usually around 5mg. Obviously that doesn't give me a rush, it just deals with the withdrawal symptoms. I would, however, for once like to get high on my methadone. What dosage range would you suggest? I have a regular 5"9' type of body, neither skinny nor obese.

Well, technically, BL isn't here to help you get a high, especially off methadone.

However, for HR purposes only, I'd say do not take more than 20mg. Are you used to taking 5mg a day or did you just begin the MMT? If you are used to it, as I said, 20mg should do the trick. If you just began the MMT, don't take more than 10mg.

One more thing, do not make a habit of dosing more than what you're prescribed. It's a vicious circle and it can totally destroy your MMT routine.

I know, I discussed with myself whether or not to include something like '... so I don't OD'... Anyway, I've been on methadone for years and I have had serious heroin habits. But I gotta say, I KNOW for a fact I can handle 20mg, because as a matter of fact, that is what I'm prescribed (20mg a day). Allow me to ask a different question then: does methadone have the same recreational values that, say, morphine does?

Not really. Due to its long HL, a methadone high lasts a long time, as opposed to the 4 hours high morphine gives you.

And the nature of the high is much different, although it depends on people. For me, it's more of an upper high, I'm more alert. And it's a fantastic antidepressant, although I wouldn't want my worst ennemy to be hooked on methadone. There are real antidepressants that are much more benign withdrawal-wise.

But some people will tell you the high of methadone is weak and not worth it. It's not the case for me ;)

As Lou is saying, it's rate of action is awful for a recreational drug. Granted it's about the same as LSD, but we're in two VERY different boats waiting for these two different drugs to take effect.

With opiates, I want that warm blanket, and I want it NOW.

Just work your way up from 5mg (waiting no less than 90min between redosing due to how long it takes for you to feel anything) until you get your sweet spot. Given that it takes so damn long, next time take 5-10mg less than your sweet spot dose for safety (also assuming you have some still lingering in your system due to it's half-life).

^ Yep as Pjkt2501 says it's a good idea to put plenty of space in between re-dosing the methadone; it takes so long to come on that sometimes people will get impatient, take more too soon and OD accidentally.

Wtf you talking about, "BL isn't here to help you get a high, especially off methadone". It's a harm reduction site, to minimize harm from users taking recreational doses of drugs. There isn't some BS discrimination rule against asking about doses of methadone to get high. Just because you feel it should be only used for MMT doesn't mean it can't be a recreational high to some, or that people shouldn't enjoy methadone high if they find it recreational.

I find it can be very recreational, and a wonderful high. I personally love long lasting opioids because I like not worrying about coming down and just having a relaxing day. I know a lot of people say it isn't very recreational, but it really is a subjective thing. You may find it recreational. Honestly I find it annoying when people automatically assume people aren't going to enjoy certain drugs recreationally. Let people decide for themselves.

If your taking 5mg regularly, I'd try 15-20mg first, then go from there the next time you plan on dosing it recreationally.

Also, I know there is really spread around drug web forums a negative attitude about insufflated methadone, but in reality insufflated methadone is very effective and comes on a lot quicker than oral or rectal methadone. You also get a more stable BA while using insufflated methadone. The one issue is of course the irritation with insufflated methadone so to minimize this I essentially use 10mg roxane tabs to create a methadone soln that I filter, then insufflate .150-.200 mL of methadone in each nostril at a time. This helps minimize irritation caused by snorting methadone, and you get the benefit of a faster come up with just as high of a BA as oral administration, and same duration.

edit; since you've obviously had experience with that dosage, I don't see why 30-40mg would be a problem. if your scripted 20mgs, 30-40mg wont cause any issues. Before I started taking 30mgs or so daily 30-40mgs used to get me very right. I'd be able to nod for a good 7-10hours. I can still feel pretty legit off of 60 or so mg, but I don't like to go higher than that or I'm just going to build up to high of a tolerance with less and less linear increase in effects. I can see going up to 40mgs for a day then back down to 5mgs for a little while would allow you to maintain a decent high from methadone once in a while when you feel a high dose is in order.

We're not here to tell you how to get high from any drug, including methadone. However we are here to warn people of dangers, and methadone is one to be careful with as others have said - leave a lot of time before you even consider redosing (I wouldn't redose at all that day to be honest) and be aware that given it's half life you need to be very cautious about taking any other CNS depressants for a long time afterwards.

If you can handle 20mgs I would not jump to 40mgs, doubling your dose generally isn't a good idea, especially if your usual daily dose is only 5mgs. Take it slowly and carefully.

SplatChrome - the reason we don't help people get high is because the level of methadone that you comfortably take (60mg) would likely kill someone with little to no opioid tolerance. This is why we can only advise people in the safest means to go about doing what they're already going to be trying to do. Also, Lou DID provide starting recommendations for where to dose for the OP given the OP's (not your) apparent tolerance and experience level. Lastly, please remain civil. Thank ye. :)

Anyhow, for my personal anecdote - only experience I had with methadone I had to take 20mg to feel anything, and I was typically taking ~1-1.5mg of bupe per day at the time (1mg bupe = 32mg oxycodone). I believe methadone is supposed to be stronger than that conversion ratio suggests - but that just lends to the variability between every person, and every chemical.

Long and short: tread lightly with Methadone. We're not talking down about it because we don't like it. We're being cautious because we prefer to see people alive and happy (well, at least alive, happiness comes and goes ;) ).

Forgive me that some of the info here is not relevant - I posted this on another thread and it is relevant here so I copied myself.

Methadone has a LONG ASS HALFLIFE, 24 hours to be exact. You ask yes, but what the heck does THAT mean? It means that 24 hours after you take the 'done 50% of the shit is left in your system. 24 hours later, 25%. And so on.

I started my love affair with opioids taking methadone. The high was insane - euphoric as HELL. Subtle, but DEFINITELY of value for recreational use. And just an FYI, I would strongly advise you not to take any benzos if you are not specifically methadone tolerant. A whole lot of people took a nap when mixing the two; a dirt nap. It would be be very irresponsible of me to suggest a dose, so I won't. For me, back in the day with no opioid habit, I took about 10 mgs. and gradually upped it to 15 then 20.

WARNING: TAKE STOOL SOFTENERS OR YOU WILL HAVE TO DO SOMETHING UNPLEASANT when it comes time to go booboo.

WARNING: METHADONE PEAKS AT 3 TO 4 HOURS, SO DO NOT DESPAIR IF YOU FEEL NOTHING 15 MINUTES AFTER YOU TAKE IT. This has been a fatal error on the part of neophyte methadone users. GIVE THE SHIT TIME TO WORK!!!!!!!!

Snorting it? That is one hard ass lick right there. Eat it.

And if you have been on 'done for a long time it takes A LOT to get you high. I have been on 120 mgs. for a long time and took 1000 mili's for reasons I don't want to discuss. Anyhoo, I just slept longer than usual. I am completely tolerant to it, so its value as a recreational drug for me is ZERO.

Again, be careful - methadone has some very peculiar pharmacokinetic qualities.

Hope this helps you.

I'm now on 130mg/day MMT, and find that increasing my dose by anything less than 30% doesn't result in any noticable effects. This could however be due to the fact that my receptors are saturated and I've already hit my ceiling. Since you are only at 5mg/dose, I'd bet you can still feel increased effects, just keep in mind this is one hell of a dangerous drug, and since you have a steady supply, it would be MUCH safer to increase your dose slightly at first, and then if that wasn't enough, wait aa day and increase your dose by a little more then. This is opposed to going up a lot initially. You can always take a bigger dose the next day since you have the supply for that not to be a serious issue.

BUT, IME, the best part of a methadone high, is the initial come-up/peak you feel 2-3 hours after ingestion. So I've found its better to put aside the methadone I would have added to my initial dose, and take it seperately later in the day. That way I get 2 peaks instead of 1, since that's all I enjoy anyway. So instead of taking 190mg at once, I take my 130 in the am, and then another 60mg later in the afternoon. But like I said I'm on a high dose so it may be different for people on less than 30mgs/day. Those ppl may feel the larger one time dose...
