i am currently suffering bad knee joint pain and its getting worse, i have a docs appointment in the morning for it though i am not sure i will be prescribed any decent pain killers, its getting depressing, im ony 23 and my knees are wearing out (runs in the family)

Im thinking if it goes unbearable and im not prescribed anything to take the edge off, ibuprofen and co-codamol dont cut it. How would a methadone habit do for pain management, would it not be worth it?

Well from experience with my grandmother, shes currently on methadone, it can be very addictive and witnessing her addiction to it would be enough to put me off to using it for pain management, but then again im not the one in pain. She claims that well into her treatment that it doesent even help with her knee pain anymore. Traditional pain meds would be a safer bet, if you can get your hands on them.

cheers, think im gonna use kratom instead, methadone addiction doesnt sound fun.

if i were prescribed methadone it would be to treat opiate addiction so i would need to take it daily unless the script would be stopped if im right. so it would be long term unless i decided to wean myself away but then i would maybe be back in pain

methadone is cheap, but has manny (unwanted) side-effects like mainly sedation, and less importantly and similarly to other opies constipation...

oxycontin is great for pain coz its less sedating, but it will have u hooked and be harder to come of than meth imo

I have to disagree with most of all that.

First, Methadone ain't cheap where I live, more expensive than Suboxone. Cost me $45 a week, that's $180 a month.

Second, I don't find the sedation from Methadone as an unwanted side effect. I very much enjoy it.

Third, No way in hell is oxycodone or any other opiate for that matter harder to get off than methadone. Oxycodone is maybe 3-4 days of very unpleasant withdrawals. Methadone the withdrawals last about a month but the first couple weeks are just as hard as any other opiate withdrawals. I was puking everyday, multiple times those first two week. I've never puked from any other opiate withdrawal.

how long of daily methadone use before the pain relief wears off

im guessing it depends on dose, hows bupernorphine for pain relief compared to methadone. i'm hoping i get prescribed tramadol..

My knee is never going to get better only worse, this is something im going to have to deal with

i thought it was cheaper in the states too... here they are both 100% reemboursed but 'done is cheaper (street price and pharm price)
anyway, methadone is still cheaper than oxy no?

Well if you'ree using it to treat pain and not to get high, you don't want to be drowsy during work for example... but the drowsiness does wear off after a monh or so.

Of course methadone is easier to get off than oxy or they wouldn't give it as a substitute to oxy, H, morphine etc. you come off it slowly, but because of the long half life its easier to taper than oxy... like valium with its longer half life is better to taper than xanax.

Also i am on methadon (MMT 90mg) and got a triple fracture (leg/ankle) and the 20mg oxy gave me more relief than the 90mg methadone... so in my personal experience methadone is not a good option for a pain med, oxy and morphine are better...

Which is why oxy, hydrocodone, morphine are more commonly Rx'ed than methadone for pain
