Methadone - First Time Advice

I'm an avid and frequent user of both oxycodone and hydrocodone.. My threshold dose of oxycodone is about 10 mg and I get a good high at 20+ mg. The most I have ever taken is about 70 mg of oxycodone over the course of a few hours. I've recently acquired some methadone and have no experience with it. Naturally, I have a couple questions before I partake..

1. How do the highs compare?

2. How long does the methadone "high" last?

3. I understand methadone is dangerous, what is a good starting dose (see tolerance above)?

4. I understand oxycodone is more euphoric, will methadone be disappointing?

5. Is it worth taking methadone at all given the associated dangers and withdrawals?

Search around, there are millions of threads about methadone..But I'll answer your questions briefly.

Methadone is a more sedating opioid than oxycodone. The 'high' could last you the better part of the day, it is very long lasting. The half-life is around thirty hours or so. Yes, it can be dangerous. Since 20mg of oxy seems to get you high, I would start with NO MORE than 5mg methadone. This may end up being too little, but it is better to start small. Effects can take as long as 2+ hours to manifest, so do not re-dose if you aren't feeling it after 30 minutes. due to the long half life, and your small tolerance, I would not dose more than once per 24 hours.

People get in trouble because even though they may not be high anymore, they re-dose 12 hours later and since the drug is stil in your system, the doses basically get compounded. This can lead to respiratory depression, and sometimes overdose.

Methadone isn't really like that stimulating high you get from OC, so there is a good chance you will be disappointed. If you like morphine/heroin, than methadone can be enjoyable. i personally like methadone a lot, the heavy, sedating noddy high is very nice.

If you are careful, you should be fine experimenting with methadone. The w/d is no fun, but the risk of w/d is no greater than it is from using oxycodone..

So basically, start with 5mg. If it isn't enough, to be 100% safe don't re-dose til he next day. re-dosing won't even increase the effects anyways, just prolong the experience. Also avoid drinking or combining benzos with it.
 
From a long term methadone addict........There are a whole lot better drugs for getting high that won't leave you with a month long withdrawl that makes heroin WD look tame.

You need to stay away from methadone unless you are trying to quit using and/or be on maintenance.

You'd be better off taking heroin than taking methadone.
 
I was thinking of buying 10mg methadone & taking half of it. I am the kind of guy that love a sedative high & seeing that it would last like 12 hours, I think I would really like it! It sucks to take oxycodone or hydrocodone & having the high only last like 2 to 3 hours.
