methadone/*EXTREEEME* sweating

Ive been on Methadone maintenance treatment for over a year now, ive been clean for the same ammount of time, i stopped increasing dose at 85, im now down to 59..
Anyway, i get these sweats in my head that are so extreme its unbelievable.. ill b walking in shorts n a t shirt jus to the mall or store, and it feels as if a furnace is turned on inside my head n i jus start to literally POOOOOOOR and DROP sweat, its horrible.... ive heard that this is a common side effect with methadone but my doctor told me that it would start to get better as i got into the low 60's n 50's.. where i am now.. and its still as bad as wen i was at 85. It happens everyday... its gettin to the point where i cant deal with it anymore..
I refuse to take clonidine for sweating b/c it makes you very drowsy, etc, and i double refuse to take effexor for sweating b/c imo its 1 of the dirtiest meds there are.


Any feedback/advice would honestly be appreciated..
 
Yes methadone does this fairly often at the beginning of treatment. It normally goes away after a certain amount of time. I had it too for about one year before it went away.
But there are certain people in which it doesn't go away, maybe it's your case, I don't know. I hope not. I whish you good luck, as I said one year is the average duration of this drawback.
 
This is very common. Happens to me on a daily basis and i hate it. I sweat buckets and I also get hot flashes, it makes me feel like I'm a 45 year old woman going through menopause =\
 
Same. I'm taking 125mg methadone daily. After walking 50 meters I'll start sweating profusely around my forehead. It's common. I carry a very small white towel with me now because of it.

This is very interesting, because the area of my body where the most sweat comes out is my forehead too. My armpits don't really get abnormally sweaty, its always my forehead that seems to be constantly dripping with sweat. It seems like I'm always wiping my forehead with my sleeve or my arm or whatever. When I'm in a room that is particularly hot I feel like I'm having a "hot flash" as described by women going through menopause....its not very cool :\
 
I get the same feeling (the hot flash or heat intolerance as I've called it). And yea, it's the forehead where the most sweat occurs. I can feel my forehead literally getting damp. Considering both of us are affected the same way it seems, that's common methadone side effects. And yea it sucks =(
 
thats EXACTLY wat i get... ill be walking, and i get Hot flashes coming on like a Furnace is turned on in my head, and i jus start to sweat EXCESSSSSSSSSSSIVELY from my head.. mostly forehead... and it takes about 20-30minutes for it to calm down n go away.. I too have bought a towel that i carry wit me but it doesnt really help much...

I dont want to take clonidine for it b/c clonidine makes me very drowsy and its got 2 many nasty side effects, same deal wit effexor.. fuck losing my sex drive.

Does anyone have Any advice for helping this problem ? Im down to 59fkn miligrams from 85.. and my mmt doctor keeps tellin me itll go away as i get into the 60's, wel im fucking done the 60's and its still AS bad as it was at 85mg... its Literally driving me fucking insane..

Sadly, I don't think it'll go away until you are completely off the methadone. One way I deal with the sweating around the forehead is a lie down somewhere for 10min and try to relax my entire body.

As far as drugs to cope with the sweating... I've been on Xanax for 4 and 1/2 years and I notice that helps a little.
 
like WILL this problem go away as i get into very lower doses ??? in your experiences i mean.
 
christ sake... fucking methadone doctor told me the sweats wouldnt stay w me once i got to the lower doses. i am going to stab him next sunday. motherFUCKER. fucking sweating driving me OFF THE WALL
 
I never knew this was because of methadone, the sweating I mean. The hot flushes have all but gone away, I often get really cold though and I dont think that will go away until im off the stuff. But I do sweat profusely most days, now that I know its because of methadone ill try to take more notice of it and the person who said they carry a little towel around with them is genius. I sometimes feel dirty because im dripping sweat and it musnt look too good, I am going to get myself a little towel(which will need washing everyday) the sweating is really bad isnt it, i hate it myself but I feel sorry for all you other ppl that have to put up with it too :( Dont let little things like this take away the reasoning for why your on methadone.

IMHO though the worst thing for me is the decreased sex drive, I hate not being able to keep an erection for a long period of time, I dont have any problem getting it up or finishing but when I am having sex it goes up and down and up and down unless I have constant stimulation which is only going to happen if im getting a HJ/BJ/penetration and I dont always like having sex in the normal sense so it sucks, Im going to ask my doc for viagra and im only fucking 20 years old!!! That pisses me off!!!
 
luckily methadone hasnt effected my sex drive at all, i feel for u buddy. i went through it years ago while trying dif SSRI/SNRI's and thats why i refuse to take them to this day.
 
Funny how many people say that's exactly it ! Except it makes complete sense ;). Certain drugs have specific effects, therefore all those (or many) that take it will experience those effects.

I notice the sweating on my back and chest, and yes also on my forehead. Mostly on my back. If I've just shaved my legs and put lotion on I can REALLY feel the sweat coming out of my pores (on my legs). It's incredibly uncomfortable.
 
I went through methadone withdrawals a couple years ago. Methadone withdrawals ARE worse than heroin withdrawal! I experienced the sweating badly. I was coming down 1 mg every 3 to 4 days.... but the sweating was the least of my worries by the time I got to 20 mgs-teens. Then came the terrible restless legs and arms; the night after night of little to no sleep; the aching of my entire body to the point I just laid in the fetal position or in hot baths for hours; absolutely zero energy to do ANYTHING. On Saturdays I had to get up at 5:30 am to go to the clinic. When I got down to 2 mg one of those days fell on Saturday. I decided not to go to the clinic anymore cause it was only 2mg and I felt like I was wasting my $$ dosing that low...I mean how bad could it be?! Methadone is so mean, I thought (or was wishing) I would die by the time Monday came around. I no longer had the sweats, but the aches, pain, restless legs & arms, constant sleeplessness along with the whole psychological side of it was relentless. BUT I lived thru it and was given the chance to live life again.
 
ive recently dropped a few more mg, 59, and ive noticed its starting to get better..
