Hello all,

I've been on methadone for a few weeks, less than a month. Anyway, I have read numerous reports on BL about people gaining weight from being on methadone. I definitely do not want to gain weight.

I certainly loved the side effect of keeping my weight down from being a dope user. However, I do admit some of it was because I would spend money on dope vs on food. So my weight was kept down, not from the dope per se, but as a result of the lifestyle of being a junkie/dope user. I also think that part of the reason other people experience weight gain from methadone is because as drug addicts, food definitely fills a void where the rush of doing drugs was once working.

Does anyone else find that methadone works really well with excercise? I can get the runner's high quicker when I take my methadone, and I run everday, at least .5 mile everyday and 1+ mile every other day. Heroin and exercise probably goes really well together also, but I couldn't even think about exercise while I was sick before getting my fixes.

BTW, I have always wondered if exercising while on any opiate is in any way less productive exercising? Because of the saying "no pain no gain"? IE you should "feel" it hurting a little bit when you exercise to make sure that you are working your muscles and burning fat, so by taking any opiate, methadone or not, i definitely feel that I can run farther, longer etc with it hurting less, as you might expect, since opiates are painkillers, but does this diminish the effect that exercise has on getting you in shape at all? Meaning.... will the painkilling effects of opiates cause exercising to work less? Will I get into shape any less quickly by being on methadone?

I'm not as active as I use to be but when when I mow the grass or weed eat I do feel sore and that my muscles have been worked the next day. It feels just like it did when I did not do opiates maybe worst since I don't do much anymore.

Stay hydrated and make balanced food choices. Since I don't have $20 a day for fast food anymore I have lost weight. So try to avoid fast food if weight is an issue.

What about exercise "burning through" the methadone in ur system? Can exersize increase ur metabolism enough that the effects of methadone wear off quicker?

I always found that working out/running destroyed my high from regular opiates, but Methadone is so diff I just don't know...

I'm on MMT at 140mg/day and stable, so its not like I ever feel high, but I do notice at around 16+ hours since I dosed, I start to feel the methadone going away---its very subtle, but I notice it. So my fear is that after I work out, I regardlless of how long ago I dosed, I will feel like I do at the end of the day/early morning when I can feel the methadone starting to go away.

Nobody has to worry about burning through their dose. I'm on 100mg a day and bodybuild, meaning I'm rigorously lifting weights and taking many steroids and compounds that increase my metabolism. I have had no problem with burning through my dose on high doses of T3, Clenbuterol, Testosterone, Helios, Trenbolone, Epistane, and diuretics. Hell there have been times were I went 2-3 days without dosing ontop of using those compounds, weight lifting, and working my manual labor job.

As long as you eat correctly on Methadone and exercise you don't have to worry about gaining any fat. You still might notice some bloating but that is from holding water and is why I want to get off this stuff soon because it is holding back my physique. You shouldn't feel pain when excersising anyways, if you feel pain you are doing it wrong and should go a little easier.

one thing though if you stop taking the methadone the withdrawals will be worse if you were working out because your muscles will ache badly
