Opioids Methadone energetic?

This is my first week on MMT and I feel a lot more energetic rather than the slow and lazy high that most people describe about Methadone. I'm only on 40mg currently.

I was wondering if this effect is only felt at the lower doses and if I should stay around 50 or 60mg rather than going up to 80mg+ like most people do.

some people get energetic off opiates, some people get relaxed off amphetamines...drugs affect everyone differently

Yeah drugs effect people differently, BUT in the OP's case, I'd say he's feeling energized b/c he just started the Methadone and b/c he's still on a low dose.

What u describe is very common for ppl on MMT, the first week or 2, the methadone gives euphoria, energy, and a nice buzz. But within a few weeks those effects wear off, THAT'S why a lot of people increase their dosages even though they are physically stable X number of weeks after starting MMT. And while you might recapture that initial feeling once or twice, eventually you will have either been on methadone long enough, have gotten to a high enough--and thus sedating dose, or in all likelihood, a combination of time + high dose.

I'd say stay as low as you can on your dose b/c ull have to tapper down eventually, and b/c trying to up your dose to increase that euphoric buzz u have now, or to try and recapture that buzz you will have probably lost, are both. Near impossible assuming you have been consistently taking your methadone.

It is likely dose dependent. I get energetic off of all opiates/opioids, even the ones that are known to be more sedating. A higher dose will make me nod, as it would for you if you take higher doses.

The reason for the energetic feeling might be explained in this video, although I think they are talking about suboxone which is more known to be energetic since it's a thebaine derivative. It's a good film series so I suggest checking out the other segments of it which are listed to the left of the video in the link. It's a few years old, but still worth a look.

I've been on Methadone for about four months now, and I'm at 40 mg. I still get energetic and experience a noticeable mood lift for a few hours after my dose. However it doesn't deliver like those first three days...

If you want to keep any semblance of that buzz, don't go above 50mg.

I know people that are relatively opiate naive and sometimes theyll take 50-60 mg and they clean all day its like total crack to them yet they nod off of a couple percocet. i believe its because methadone has effects on glutamate and NMDA receptors.

At least in america, they only use the racemic mixture. one of the forms isnt very effective in terms of working on the opiate receptor and instead works on the NMDA receptors whereas the other form of methadone is the one giving you the buzz. somewhere in the netherlands they strictly use this form of methadone so someone dependent on 100 mg would take like half the dose and get the same effect
