^There are a few really good threads, including a megathread that cover opiate potentiation. A lot of people including myself will tell you that benzodiazepines such as the ones you are taking are probably the most straightforward and potent potentiators of opiates; alcohol included due to its similar effects. However, using alcohol or benzos with methadone is pretty dangerous so you do so at your own risk.
Briefly I will mention some potentiation techniques that are fairly tame and can be used about everyday without any ill consequences.
-High fat meal prior to ingestion. I find that eating a high fat meal prior to ingestion of my daily dose of Methadone, can have a more than subtle effect on my dose. Obviously having food in your stomach when you take something orally will delay the onset, but Methadone already has a huge lag time.
-Antihistamines: I don't know for sure if the effects of combining antihistamines with opiates necessarily has a synergistic effect, but myself and others will testify that it can increase the drowsiness or the "nod" that many opiate users seek.
-White Grapefruit Juice: About on par with a high fat meal. Consuming an ~8 oz glass of orange juice prior to heading to the clinic for my dose has a similar effect on the duration and intensity as consuming a fatty meal.
-Tagamet/Cimetidine: I saved the best for last. IMO nothing works better as a potentiator. Cimetidine is an OTC antacid medicine that you can get at any pharmacy, but is about 1/3 the price at wal-mart. Has a very noticeable effect which degrades with repeated or daily use... like everything
OP: Methadone is a wonder drug for being in withdrawals. What I've experienced and witnessed in my troubles says that with Methadone, a little can truly go a long way. When I originally got to the clinic, I was coming off of a 2-2.5 gram per day heroin habit, and I live in New England where the shit is good. I got 30mg on my first day, and I found that it worked surprisingly well. I still required increases obviously, but the 30mg made me functional and even a little bit motivated. I hope this example helps. If I were you I might even break it apart and split the dose. It might give you a little bit of extra time of relief, plus the placebo effect is helpful. Just knowing that you have imbibed some opiates will probably make you feel much better!
