Hello, I'm a new member to this forum and have been browsing your site for probably 7 years+. I searched the posts to see if this questions has been answered; however, with no luck. So please don't flame me in case it was there and it was an oversight on my part.

Currently am in my second round at the methadone clinic. I'm on 70mg a day as of now. The reason I don't want to go too high is because I want to taper down fairly soon. When I was in the clinic before, I was up to 105mg a day. I successfully tapered down to 2mg a day, then to 0. I was clean for 2 years then; being the smart-tough guy I thought I was, I thought I could handle getting a prescription of vicoden. Big mistake. This eventually turned to Oxys, then eventually graduated to dope, then using needles. I was using for about 5 months before I dedided to check back into the methadone clincic.

My situation is, when I tapered down the last time. I tapered down 3mg a week from 105 down to 2, down to 0 mg. I was bedridden nearly for a week, then still had symptoms for another 2 months. I'm thinking it's because I tapered down so quickly. I'm wondering when I decide to taper down this time, from 70mg a day. What would be the best way / most comfortable way for me to taper down without going through such harsh w/d symptoms? Any advice would be appreciated.

Again, if this has been mentioned in a previous thread - I apologize. I know how annoying this can be and will do a more thorough search the next time. I appreciate the help I've received so far and look forward to any helpful advice. Love ya guys. -Thanks.

I went down 2mgs a week until I was done. I went from 165 to like 10 when I walked off. I couldn't see paying the same for 10 as I did for 165. That's how it worked at my clinic. I felt ok except for the sleep. It took a month for me to take more than just cat naps. I to thought I could handle a script and am still in that cycle right now. Eventually it will lead back to dope then clinic, but when I did get off that's how and it was real mild WD. Just take your time I wish I was still on methadone all the time. The one thing I realized when I got off was how fuct my back is. The methadone totally numbed that. Now I'm on a bunch of Norco and MScontin and it doesn't last 1/4 as long as equal amount of methadone. The only plus side of my pain meds are that I get 30 day supply of both for $2. I paid $80 a week for methadone. Some ppl need to be on something forever just to stay off other more harmful things or to just not be in pain or miserable. I think I'm one of those ppl. I always dreamed of a life w/out any drugs, but the damage is done and my life sux w/out anything. I've done it and hate it. Don't rush off the clinic. Stay as long as u need to or can afford it. At least it controlled and not gonna kill u. U won't get a felony on methadone either. Unless u divert your meds. Hope that helped.

I'm from Camden originally. I just saw your from philly. That's where dope started for me. I used to go to kensington all the time from 95-99. Until operation safe streets. I came to MI to get away from dope, but it's everywhere. Really stay on the clinic if u r copping dope in philly bad shit will happen trust me. I've been robbed, shot at, and beat up(by the cops). I've seen a lot of bad shit and really the clinic is way better than the street life.
