How long would I have to wait between doses of methadone to avoid physical dependence or withdrawal?

I have successfully used various opioids over the past 2 and a half years without experiencing a major withdrawal, I just stuck to using them around once or occasionally twice a week, with random month-long breaks thrown in . However, all of these opioids I have had previous experience with had much shorter half lives than methadone so I am unsure if my system of spacing will apply the same.

I have acquired eleven 25mg methadone pills recently. I would like these to be my last opioid/drug purchase of my life. Contrary to many opinions I find these have a fair amount of recreational value so i feel like it is a nice way to say good bye. That said, I really don't want to fuck up and end my run with a withdrawal and add extra physical pressure to relapse on top of the already daunting psychological side of it.

I have never heard of 25mg methadone pills. Only 5mg, 10mg and 40mg.
Are you sure its methadone? Have you gone to google and done a pill ID check?

Using methadone once or twice a week should not cause any physical withdrawals.

Using once or twice a week shouldn't cause physical dependence. Though as you said, the long half life makes it a little more dangerous to play around with. I'm not sure what your dosage is when you take methadone, but you do not have a large supply. I used to take it recreationally when I was younger and even taking it 7 days in a row wouldn't cause physical dependence.

But, for harm reduction sake I would try and keep at once a week at the most. Anymore and you're risking accumulating methadone in your system. And even though you say this is your last time, etc, doesn't mean it WILL be. Don't take that the wrong way, I am just being realistic, especially when it comes to opiates. We've all quit a million times. =D

Just stick to once a week at most and you'll definitely be fine.

It will be my last. Has to be.

I find this hard to believe, said it many times myself before something else came along.

In general, using once or maybe twice a week should not cause a physical dependence. However it may cause a psychological dependence.

The rule of thumb for opiates is 4 days in a row and you're screwed.

Lol

Can't say I expected this response from bluelight.

I guess you guys can go ahead and believe what you will, and I'll continue believing in myself. Might be naiive, but I don't really see my attempt to get clean being successful if I don't believe I can do it. Laugh away, but if I'm gonna do something might as well try do it right.

I think I will try keep it to once a week, maybe twice every other week try stretch the stash out to about 5-7 weeks, then go completely clean. Almost gonna feel guilty if i get away with a couple years of fun with no physical symptoms.

Don't feel guilty be glad you got away and NEVER look back addiction and fun is a VERY thin line almost invisible but once you cross it there is no turning back. So when you are done just turn and run and don't look back that's the only advice I can give you

Methadone has been the best thing I have done. I have been stable on 150ml now for ages and live a perfectly normal life with a job and a daughter.

I have to agree with you. I take it for pain and it has freed me from Oxycodone and (withdrawal mornings). I can finally concentrate on the last few surgeries I need to have plus it works wonders for pain. For the OP, please be careful, methadone has taken many peoples lives so go easy, once a week should suffice if you don't want to fall into the rabidone hole. Good luck to you.

I agree it can be great to get peoples lives back together, but unless you plan on being on it for life... you might be singing a different tune when you try and ever come off it.. :\

Sadly, I will be stuck on methadone or another type of long acting opiate for the rest of my life, so I am not worried.

Ha, it's crazy seeing this thread after so long.

For the record I didn't "get away with it" had myself a pretty horrible run on heroin. I'm now on MMT.

I should have listened, but in honesty this was the only way I was going to learn. My own fallibility is often impossible for me to accept.

I'm too cocky. I always have been, I have a suspicion I always will be.

Chronic pain issues?

Every bone waist down was broken, with a right leg below knee amputation, shattered pelvis and shattered spine S1-S5, ruptured bladder, severed urethra...so yeah...chronic pain issues :) It's all in my introduction post.

I have been on a daily dose of 150ml now for a year. I was put on it for heroin, oc, fentanyl abuse and it works well. I still get cravings for benzos though anf am currently on the hunt for a herbal or legal high to fulfill my need and love for euphoria.
