My nephew was on the Mallinckrodt methadone with imprint "M 57-71" for over a decade. He went into SEVERE withdrawal on one occasion when the pharmacy switched to Roxanne methadone. Since I am a pharmacologist, he called me, at the time I told him that it was probably just a placebo-effect, he assured me it WAS NOT..... Since he had been on Pain Management for over seven years at that time, he had a "Stash" of the Mallinckrodt methadone, asking me to come visit him. I did, I can attest he was in SEVERE withdrawal, and he told me that the sweats, pain, huge pupils and body aches, all went away when he would simply take 40mg of the Mallinckrodt methadone.
He was on an Rx of 9x 10Mg/Day. So he asked me to document that the Roxanne pills were in fact the 10mg Methadone tabs, and that the Pharmacy did not dispense the wrong pills. I did, they were in fact the Roxanne 10mg methadone tabs. I told him to take half-Roxanne and half Mallinckrodt methadone tabs because the pharmacy would not exchange them. He got through that month with a large toll on his 'stash-pills', and always requested Mallinckrodt methadone 10mg tabs thereafter. He has since passed away from an overdose, but had gone to a MMT center after his Doctor sold the Pain Practice. The MMT had him on 220mg/day and he was completely miserable prior to his passing, saying that "Liquid Methadone is NOT REAL Methadone". He left that written in his suicide note.

In the decade-plus of him on Mallinckrodt methadone, he had told me that he took an average of only 70mg/Day, hence accounting for his STASH pills. Yet whilst going to a MMT clinic, even on a dose of 220mg/Day he reported that he was in constant pain and felt horrible depression, so bad it led to suicide.... Something everyone on this forum might consider, just how powerful this drug IS, and the consequences !!!
I have since done an enormous amount of research as to WHY he had these horrible life experiences at the young age of 36. He is now dead, an opiate addict for over twenty years of his life. I'm currently writing a paper to submit to medical journals and the MMT practitioners.
My view; THERE IS A DIFFERENCE between various "Methadone", I hope to someday soon expose exactly what that might be.... Be very careful with this drug!!! PLEASE !!!
