last friday i upped my dose of methadone from 85mg to 100mg.
after about 4 hours or so i start to sweat like crazy!! my hair gets soaking wet, etc. i know it's not withdrawl because i do not have chills, stomach cramping, or dilated pupils.
my heart rate increases also...then around 3pm, the sweating and heart racing stops...
anyone else experience this? and i heard there is a medication to help with the sweating..let me know what you guys think..thanks

It sucks, i sweat a lot from the methadone, and i'm only at 50mg... it sucks big time

yeah it does...and i live Fort Lauderdale where the temperature never dips below 70 and from april-november it is usually between 80-90..wouldn't be so bad but it is so damn humid. at least the coast is only 2 miles away so there's a nice ocean breeze..
so the humidity plus methadone sweats makes it unbearable at times. not as bad as sweating from crystal meth though

Very, very common.

I get it too, it comes and goes. I've been slightly over 100mg a day for over a year, and it hasn't gone away. This is a common complaint.

Unfortunately it seems that everyone has a threshold for side effects with MMT. It seems that for many people, before they get to a dose that does effectively hold them for 24 hours, controls cravings, etc. the side effects like sweating, severe constipation, heavy sedation, etc kick in and interfere with day to day functioning.

This makes oral Morphine XR and oral Hydromorphone XR much more attractive for the long term maintenance of opioid addicts (many countries use Morphine and Hydromorphone, among other opioids for this reason). Fewer and less severe side effects compared to high dose Methadone.

Talk to your counselor at your MMT clinic about possible treatments, OTC or RX. I know in his biography William S Burroughs used Vitamin C capsules to combat sweating on Methadone, though I do not recommend this as Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid/Ascorbate) substantially weakens the effectiveness of all opioids, including Methadone.

thanks guys...yeah it does suck. hate taking a shower, then soaking wet from sweat 30 minutes later from walking my dog. i usually rinse off in cold shower at least 3 times a day

yeah the sweating does seem to go away after 3 or 4 hours..much more tolerable than having the cold sweats from withdrawl though.
really vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid form) weakens methadone? i also take dexedrine and know that Vitamin C decreases the amount of dexedrine absorbed into the blood stream, so i take my vitamins at least 2 hours after my dexedrine.
how long after i dose with methadone do i have to wait till i take vitamin C?

I wouldn't recommend taking it at all. Talk to your counselor about what to do.

oh god, cold sweats are the worst..especially when trying to hide it from a SO/ bed partner. My ex used to call me the 'midnight furnace'

my multi-vitamins contain Vitamin C in the form of Calcium Ascorbate and Ascorbate Palmitate
if Vitamin C is bad to take with methadone, how come grapefruit juice boosts it's effects..grapefruit juice is very high in Vitamin C?
lately i have been taking 3 tabs of Tagamet 30 minutes before i dose instead.

Ascorbic Acid and various Ascorbate forms reduce the effectiveness of all opioids, as well as many other medications (and poisons: IV Ascorbate is an effective antidote for a host of poisonings).

Grapefruit juice contains flavinoids that act on P-glycoprotein and inhibit the isozyme CYP3A4, which is the main isozyme in opioid metabolism. Vitamin C content is relative. You will be consuming a much higher dose in a Vitamin C supplement than you would from a glass of GF juice.

Ive hear people complain of sweating while on methadone. Usually they where overweight, not saying you are. It's just what I observed. Ive been on methadone 3x and I never had a problem with sweatinge excessively but I'm a skinny guy.
Methadone would make me sleep alot which I didn't really like.

ok so drinking two 8 oz. cups of grapefruit juice 30 minutes before taking my methadone would be ok? or would you recommend 45 minutes before?

no i am 5'10 165lbs. with only 7% bodyfat. i workout about 2.5 hours 6 days a week

I had great results with methadone for many years for peripheral nueropathy,
about 2 yrs ago when everyone started dying from methadone, I got a REALLY bad batch.
I know this because I had stash of about 200 that I always would keep just incase my doctor was out of town, anyway I started getting horrible heart palpitations, sweating not working on my pain, and would literally make me gasp f0r for breath, it took me a few times to realize it was from my methadone.
I went and got into my stash, and compared them. they were both roxanne 10 mgs but the newer ones were thicker, and had a very faint little tan line running thru the side of it. my old ones did NOT. I had NEVER had any probs with this medication be fore, and didnt with any of my stash either. anyway I have a great doc, have known him for many years, he was good enough to let me have compounding pharmacy make some up for me, in a liquid form using only water, and nothing else, it worked perfect, no problems, really weirded me out though.
MY doc thinks we are at risk becasue most of the opiates are made out of the country, not the the methadone (I dont think) but whose know whos skimming off the top, and what they are using as a filler. I also did some drug testing of my own on that methadone, it came up positive for all sorts of weird stuff, .......I dont know, Im just sayin.........
