Third time’s the charm. My DOC is cocaine, but I also love taking amphetamines and other uppers. I’ve been doing coke every day for the last week — maybe around 5 grams total — and wanted a new high because my nose has been bleeding. My dealer offered me meth, so I said yes. He came over with a glass pipe, a torch, and the stuff (0.25g). He lit it up for me and told me how to inhale.

But I never felt that euphoria or the amazing feeling people describe. When I got home, I took a few more hits — still nothing. The only thing I noticed was that my urge to do more coke went away and I wasn’t sleepy. The next day, I tried again and still nothing. Then I realized I had no gas in the torch lighter. I did manage about eight more hits, but still nothing — just felt confused and tired.

Later, my dealer came by to deliver more coke since the meth wasn’t working, and he filled up my torch. I decided to give it one last try. I took a few hits in the car with him, came home, did two small lines of coke — and voilà! I was completely euphoric, to the point where I had to calm myself down.

I always binge on stimulants, and it usually gets to a point where they stop working, but in this case, meth never worked until I added the coke. I guess my body needed those two lines to “lift” my brain. Now I have to take a two-hour ride to my parents’ house completely wired, and the woman driving me is very polite and religious. I’m trying to figure out how to act normal because I like the high but don’t like being around people who aren’t friends when I’m like this.

Oh — I forgot to mention that I take Bupropion and Sulpiride in the morning, and Quetiapine, Trazodone, and Zolpidem at night (otherwise I can’t sleep). I’m wondering if maybe the meth didn’t work at first because of those meds.

And yes, I do know it’s extremely dangerous to mix cocaine and meth — I’m aware of the risks, but I’m trying to understand why the reaction was so different this time and what’s happening in my body.

Maybe your dopamine baseline is just elevated from being on coke at this point since you've been on a binge for the last week. Also those are some pretty heavy sleeping meds so I could see that maybe playing a bit of a role

I can tell you exactly why you weren't feeling much effects from the Meth.
For 1. You said you have been using cocaine for 5 days straight? Cocaine and methamphetamine are cross tolerant, which means while they aren't completely interchangeable, they will still hit some of the same receptors. So your dopamine levels are likely much lower then they would normally have been had you not done any coke over the last week.

And the second reason why you didn't get the high you were expecting, you mentioned the medications you take every night, and well Zolpidem is going to dull the the effects some just because it's a sleeping med, and THEN you are also taking Seroquel! Which I know you said it's for sleep, but since it's an antipsychotic that means it essentially shuts down most of your dopamine receptors. Which are the main receptors Methamphetamine acts on. With all things involved it's no wonder you didn't really feel much when you tried it. Lol

Thank you! That makes a lot of sense. I basically take Zolpidem and Seroquel on a regular basis to sleep. I Wonder why the effects of coke are also very dull.
