Meth: "The poor man's Cocaine"?

^^^Yeah, like probably one toke is enough for me . . . I never shoulda taken seven hits. So if one or two tokes is enough to function then I'll bet that a gram of Meth (smoked) would outlast a gram of coke (snorted) 4 to one or maybe higher.

I was also thinking that those who call it "poor person's coke" are misinformed or are basing their info on who uses it. Like, how many successful business-people use Meth versus coke. I couldn't function at a job high on meth and it takes a day or two to recover.

You are completely off.

I hold down a 40+ hour job a week and go school part time-- and I'm a daily meth user. Nobody would ever guess I'm a meth user, and this has been proved because every time I go to rehab people are shocked. I've met addicts who've used for 20+ years and held down jobs, had familes, etc and no one knew. Meth users are just a succesful at hiding their addictions as coke users. If anything, meth helps increase performance more than coke.

As for the recovery, the more you use the more you become used to it, and if you're a recreational user, IME, the comedown after ONE day becomes less.

Depending on what you're buying, I'd say the largest price difference would be about 50% here. Generally it's about 30% with meth being the more expensive. If you're buying fishscale coke is still more expensive, unless you're buying equally pricey methamphetamine.

Prices in meth have skyrocheted in CA though, and a few years ago that wasn't the case. When I first started using (5.5 yrs ago) meth was significantly cheaper than coke, but the price for a gram has tripled since then, and the price for coke has gone down.

I don't think of meth being the poor man's cocaine... I think the DRUGS are really different. To me, coke is a worthless drug; the high isn't as intense, doesn't last as long, and I build up a tolerance like CRAZY. My tolerance to meth builds surprisingly low and it's just better all around for me. I'm sure many would disagree but that's my preference. It's also really hard to find GOOD coke nowadays, quality has gone IMO here anyway. But I'll still take decent methamphetamine over top notch coke anyday.

Thx for the info MrsMia about the price-rise & etc. In my last post I realized that a person could function and go to work with one toke. Unfortunately, my first time with Meth, I overdosed. It has seriously affected my life . . . I can't do xtc anymore my heart is fucked-up, needs to heal. Even drinking a cup of coffee affects my heart now. I'm really worried/fucked.

(If U Google "Poor man's Cocaine" + Meth versus "Poor man's cocaine" + crack, U'll see more referrals to Meth than crack.) This question is also a research project of mine.

When I was coming up (in the late 70s/early 80s), we used to call crank/crystal meth "poor man's coke" not because it was cheaper per gram than cocaine (they were about the same price, as I recall) but because it went so much further. I could snort a 1/4 gram of coke in an hour or two: a 1/4 gram of meth would have me tweaking until the next afternoon.

I couldn't tell you the current prices on the stuff: I have no interest in recreational stimulants and agree with Mick Jagger's assessment that cocaine is a boring drug. But I know the half-life for methedrine is much, much longer than the half-life for even the purest cocaine -- so I'd assume you still get more bang for your buck.

Cocaine tends to be more associated with the upper class and the glamorous night life types, where as meth tends to be associated with rednecks making it in their trailers. For this reason I can see why people think of it as a poor man's cocaine. Just as crack was associated with homelessness and/or black ghettos in the 80's it was the poor mans version of cocaine.

wow either you guys get shit coke or just over-do it....

a gram lasts me a week, easy.. that's being high most of the day. i don't do lines tho, just bumps. that's enough for me even tho i have a decent amphetamine tolerance (70mg daily). anymore than that at once, and i feel like i'm gonna pass out..which is a waste to me.. i want to be productive, not OD.

a gram of crystal lasts me about double that; 2 weeks. this could even include a couple days of bingeing. that doesn't mean wasting my shit... i smoke it or plug it and it goes a long way like that. this is the mexican shit tho, which is 95%+ pure.

it's also double the price of a gram of coke...which makes perfect sense.

ps - cocaine is more intense than crystal. period. just compare smoking crack to smoking crystal meth. i've come way closer to death off one single hit of crack than i ever have off several big hits of crystal over the course of a few minutes.

the half-life isn't what determines the potency of a substance, imo. but to each his own....

tolerance is based on how much you use at once, of course. this really has nothing to do with the drug itself. if you take a set dose then redose after it has worn off, your tolerance will remain relatively stable vs continually redosing before effects have worn off; to get higher..which will raise your tolerance level pretty fast.

it's just common sense, really....

Where I live a gram of cut meth called 'speed' sells for 1/2 to 2/3 of the price of a gram of cocaine (the price of cocaine fluctuates by about 25% of the top price). 'Speed' can often actually be pretty decent meth, it can also be total shit. I would say the average gram of speed would outlast a gram of cocaine easy.

Good meth, as in crystal shards costs the same per gram as the top end of what you will pay for coke. Sometimes shards have been cut a fair bit but a gram of the shittest crystal I have ever bought in my life would outlast a gram of cocaine by miles.

Cocaine here is often cut to hell as I live far away from where it is made. This is in Melbourne Australia by the way.

^ A point or two of any but the worst aussie crystal meth with get you high for much longer than a gram of coke will. Back when I first started using meth, half a point smoked would be enough to have me charged for a good 3 or 4 hours.
