Alright. a bit of a gay question i know, but i am really not a big fan of speed. that average buzz and staying up so damn long after a good session. but Meth. now that's what i'm after. a reall rush and talking a rate of knots.
so what i'm wondering is, is therre a real difference in the way they effect your body and in what ways do this discrepencies occur.
cheers

Generally, in the US and Australia, speed = meth. Of course, speed (and meth too) can vary widely in quality.

In the rest of the world, I believe speed = amphetamine. Amphetamine is basically a somewhat weaker, less euphoric, more side-effect inducing version of meth.

Additionally, speed can sometimes refer to any kind of stimulant -- including adderall, dexedrine, ritalin...as well as amphetamine and meth.

Amphetamine and meth have very similar effects, side effects, and risks.

Presuming you are in the US or Oz, I'm going to assume you just get shitty meth and that is what you are calling 'speed'.

Yet another reason slang sucks...

from personal experiance, in the two countries i've bought speed in:
speed in us=methamphetamine
speed in uk=amphetamine

the actual difference between them: a methyl (carbon and three hydrogens). the methyl lets the drug penetrate better into the brain.

amphetamine is the more powerful of the two, while meth is considered more euphoric and recreatoinal.

nothing to add apart from the fact that a methyl group has 3 hydrogens

looks like this

Code:
   H
   |
H--C-- rest of molecule
   |
   H

anyone have any idea just how neurotoxic amphetamines and the like are? like a website with info about this ive searched erowid to no avail.

i know constant use can cause damage but what about responsible use say 20mg of adderall a couple times a month? or small doses of meth once a week. i also think part of the neurotoxicity is because people are taking care of themselves by eating the right nutrients or sleeping.

I live In Australia.. and yes alot of the speed we get is about 1parts meth and about 3 parts base... the more meth the more expensive its gonna be.
the meth gets u talkin real fast and the base makes u stay reallly awake and just seem like the world is on fast but its stuck on slo-mo at the same time..

^^^
What are you talking about? I live in Oz and I've never heard of that..all the speed in my area is in shards and is meth. Base usually refers to a more pure version of amphetamine in Europe and is sometimes used around here for the 'paste' type methamphetamine. 99% of speed in Australia is meth.

Difference in effects? Amphetamine raises your heart rate a lot more at higher doses, has more side effects and doesn't last as long. Because meth has less side effects it allows you to do a lot more and get a lot higher.

But difference in actual effects..ahh they both feel pretty similar..meth will give u more of a rush and keep you up longer.

"Base" is generally Aussie slang for meth, often in its paste form.

Check out the My Nanna thread. You seem a little confused.

Slang sux. Don't use it.
