meth psychosis- permanent?

Sorry man, I had a reply typed up but it vanished when BL crashed for a moment.

In short, I'm fairly sure his prognosis is good if he stops using drugs (all drugs, not just meth) and receives active treatment - the sooner the better for both. I don't remember the numbers, but most meth users who experience psychosis recover fully if they stop using meth and receive treatment.

He should either contact his doctor, be open about his symptoms and drug use and ask for a referral to a psychiatrist or, especially if he doesn't have a good relationship with a GP, he might have better luck getting a referral to a psychiatrist with experience treating the side effects of meth use by going to his state Drug and Alcohol service. Can't hurt to at least give them a call. He needs therapy, an evaluation to see whether he needs to take anti-psychotic medication for a little while and, I can't stress this enough, to stop using drugs. Most drugs will aggravate the psychosis in one way or another.

I used meth for sometime (made the switch to ice), the psychosis that came with the drug was unbearable that I actually left the country to get away from it, when looking back I could have received help at that time. It did go away, my paranoia and psychosis eventually, but took some time indeed. Everyone is different of course.

As Crankener mentions, there are treatments for the side and post effects of meth use that cannot be anything but beneficial in one way or another. At least look into options.

Please don't take this as me saying one is worse.

But I used IV heroin and cocaine. They work very differently but both felt so amazing. But IV meth is like a completely different monster.

After 7 years of daily heroin(&usually benzo too) use i was still the same person just a mess. After 9 months of daily ice injections my head broke so off to the psych ward.

I believe meth is just the most horrible of things in this world.

In short - meth is a strong hitting drug. Really takes its toll on you. I've shot your main hard drugs in their purest forms and meth takes the cake pound for pound so to speak. Coke when it's cooked to remove all it's impurities does come close but shooting meth in it's purest state will produce a shocking high. Speed balling coke and heroin is still the most high I have ever gotten in one shot but once again both the drugs have to be as pure as you make them. Aargh - it's all bad. Glad I'm well past that behaviour. Save your brain for something else, meth is just so taxing on the mind body and soul.

So with that in mind drug psychosis is reached more quickly and easily with meth in my opinion and experience but everybody is different of course. I think with the nature of drug psychosis one should be able to return to a normal state once the drug is ceased and good health practises are introduced - regular sleep and nutrition.

Another great thread. Why edit your initial post so people who now read it do not know what you asked or mentioned? Just delete it. Or in future add to the already going meth thread. :p

The original post mentioned he suspected the individual he was discussing was reading the thread, I suspect that's why he edited it.
