I read, on a site similar in nature to
www.streetdrugs.org, that ice (4-meth) wasn't synthesised till the 70's, and it was being done in Hawaii. This info doesn't sound fully accurate tho...
It also stated that the effects of ice are different than meth (which version of meth, since we now understand there are so many, it doesn't indicate) in terms of areas that i would find it really hard to differ in, considering it's first and foremost a stimulant: on ice, your heart rate doesn't increase much, and it's more of a mental euphoria, whereas meth does the complete opposite.
Again, how accurate is this?
On
http://www.streetdrugs.org/methamphetamine.htm,
take a look at how skewed their info is:
"The street version of methamphetamine is most often manufactured illegally in underground labs. It is also known as "speed" or "crystal" when it is swallowed or sniffed; as "crank" when it is injected; and as "ice" when it is smoked."
So the type of meth will vary depending on how you choose to take it...ha.
