I would like to know everyone's opinion about metabolism. Do you guys think that metabolism slows down with age?

This is probably just me but i just noticed when I was from 18-25 I hardly gained weight even if I was eating a ton of food. But now that I am at my late twenties I started to notice that I have to be really careful with food consumption as well and the amount of exercise I do to make sure I don't gain a ton amount of weight. Does anyone here experience this as well?

Thank you for the input. I have been exercising almost everyday for the last year and have been eating healthy as much as I can. I've noticed an improvement and will continue with adding more types of exercises by early next year.

Price of aging, every thing slows down a bit. I hit 30 this year, and have noticed a lot of slow down, but I have also noticed that it has the up side of being tempered with experience and a calmer head. Keep training, it helps with the aging by helping the body and mind stay sharper longer.

Yes, I have been training hard almost every single day to keep me in shape, I have noticed a lot of differences with my body and the main thing I noticed is that it is easy for me to gain weight. I have pushing myself for tougher training so that it gives a shock to the body so it is easier to lose weight.

I've found that my metabolism has really slowed down. I have heard different opinions on fasting. Some say it's detrimental to your metabolism but it's the only thing that seems to make a difference for me. Does anybody else fast periodically?

^ I haven't actually tried fasting as I believe that my body might not be able to handle just consuming water and not going through without food. Although Foreigner has some really good points posted in the fasting thread that it is way much better to go into juicing and vegetables that not consuming anything at all.

Yes, it does.

Diet changes also affect the metabolism. To boost your metabolism you should avoid more junk and processed foods, and take more raw and organic foods.

Do you have any evidence demonstrating this?

ebola

I think the main cause of metabolism slow down is hormones.
I don't think organic/raw food boost metabolism. Organic/raw food usually has more fiber than heavily processed food, so it's more satiating, so people whose diets are based on raw food eat less total calories than people who eat processed food. Therefore some people believe that raw food boost metabolism, it doesn't. Just my opinion

The raw/organic thing is a topic unto its self, but any time you are consuming large amounts of processed foods, that contain any number of additives, preservatives stabilizers and just generally highly modified ingredients, your system is going to have to cope with dealing with completely unnatural ingredients as well as natural products that have been modified down to the shape of the salt crystal to illicit a specific response by our brains. So the people that are eating , food that is closer to its natural state or is in fact natural and un fidgeted with, their systems seem to find a balance faster. What you eat plays a big role in how you function, hormones are another key player, especially when you are talking modified foods , specifically when you are dealing with meats and dairy products, as RBGH, as well as Trenbolone and other Anabolic hormones and peptides have been shown to pass through into the final product. Yeah are you going to be more satiated by a more filling food? Yeah; is it all the fiber, no thats just part of the equation. Really its another topic...
I don't like to beat the raw/ organic drum as a cure all because it sure as hell is not, but it is a great place to start. But local, organic ( if and when possible) along with seasonal, and sustainable farming and hunting/harvesting will get you a higher quality, that has by far a better nutritional profile then mass raised, sweatshop agriculture that is the current model. I work a a chef, and I can honestly say animals that were treated better less stress ect ect are have a much better taste, as does produce. Just changing over to more organic, fruit sand produce you will see a change the infusion of much needed vitamins and minerals as well as fiber, will help. Taking tablets to supplement if fine if you cant get it in you diet naturally we are designed to get these necessary items from our environment and diet. So yeah sorry to hijack this .

I just passed my 24th birthday, so I suppose I don't have a lot of age to speak of, but I have noticed that since my teenage days my metabolism has actually INCREASED. When I was 13-18, I could not eat anything fatty or unhealthy without putting on weight literally overnight at times. And I don't mean water weight that went away a day later, I mean real permanent weight. Now I can literally eat whatever I want and not put on a single pound. It may be my body's response to years of me trying to "put it in its place" with diets and basically starvation, but I can binge on cookies and ice cream for a week straight (have done this) and not be a pound heavier at the end of it.

As for raw/organic foods, when I lived in Colorado I ate all healthy, locally-sourced, organic foods and I can honestly say I felt more healthy during that time than any other time in my life. I was healthy and energetic and felt amazing, I only stopped because I moved to a place where it was way out of my budget to eat that way anymore.

^Wow that's quite unique Soliele I wish I am like that. I had been eating really healthy lately so I had lost some weight. I was about 166 lbs for a 5'7 lady two months ago and I checked my weight about a week ago or so and I am now at 150 lbs. I am working my ass off in the gym so much and so intense that I feel the results although I would still like to lose about 10 more lbs and tone the rest of my body like arms and abs. I eat organic and non organic I am not very picky as long as these are veggies, fruits and fish. I have also cut rice out of my meals and this is probably why I lost some weight.
