Phenethylamines Mescaline curiousity

So I haven't really curious about trying mescaline. I have experiences with other hallucinogens such as LSD, mushrooms, DMT. I feel I don't get much of any spiritual benefit from them for the most part, or sometimes I'll have a bad trip and convince myself that I'm going to die from an adverse reaction to the drug.
I heard mescaline is different, for example with other hallucinogens your mood and the setting have to be just right so you have a good experience, anything small can cause a bad trip- they say mescaline is more euphoric and not like that at all.
I'm in ******* , and they have a psychedelic church named ******* (I have no idea how this place is operating and have no issues with the law). Anyways at this small church they have psychedelics that you can "buy" but instead call it a donation. Mescaline is one of the psychedelics they have there, Price removed
I want to give it a try but I feel like at my age and for all the drugs and addiction and pain that I went through I feel like my mind is polluted to the point where any hallucinations will give me a bad reaction. I have been obsessed with the fact that feeling like I caused long-term damage to my body from drug use and I fear all the time that I'm going to have a heart issue and die unexpectedly.
I don't want to have a bad experience on mescaline at all and I'm pretty much just asking everybody your opinion on if it's safe to take if it's more euphoria then having to adjust your setting and mood like with other psychedelics.

I have removed the name of the source and the price. We do not discuss sources or prices at BL, please do not do it in the future

IMHO, mescaline is least likely to provoke a bad reaction. It is easiest to handle but, but as with all psychedelics,, dosing is everything, so gently does it. Start small and increase your dose gradually. 🙏

It sounds like depression at the onset and I will tell you it is an awareness thing to begin with and once start awareness of who you actually are, you know those feelings of reluctance are a sign you may not enjoy 12 to 14 hours of realization. Its up to you

I want to be able to face the demons that really bother me down to my core. A lot of embarrassing things and stuff I have done in life I'm not proud of and being insecure. I don't want to have that burden of feeling those horrible feelings anymore. I also have this very big fear that I damaged my heart from long term meth use. I have been having painful and scary chest pains that I swore was a heart attack. Only to go to the hospital and all the tests came back fine. I have been sweating profusely, I don't know if it's because of the California weather and me being on the east coast and not used to it or if there is an underlying condition. I have rapid heartbeat , the irregular heartbeat. It comes and goes I don't feel like this all the time but I feel deep down something is wrong and there's damage. Sorry for rambling I just don't want to do a psychedelic and then be scared for 12 hours that I'm going to have a heart attack from discomfort.
Or maybe I just can't do psychedelics anymore? I was just hoping mescaline would be an exception and it would maybe change my perception of life to the point where I can put down a lot of harmful addictions and habits.

If you have anxiety issues, be exceptionally careful. It's like learning to ride a bicycle all over again - little by little you'll find your confidence. BABY STEPS!

Many phenethylamines, but mescaline in particular, have a very unique method of action in that they do not dissolve the ego, but kind of strengthen it. And this not in a way that is inflationary or unwarranted, but showing you where your strengths lie and that you can be proud of who and what you are. There is the old tripper myth/wisdom to not look into the mirror on psychedelics - on mescaline absolutely look into the mirror, smile at yourself, give yourself some grace. It may teach you much needed self-love.

I've always likened mescaline to a cosmic gentle grandfather, and taking it means you can hop on his lap, listen to some wise tales, be shown the correct path, but also get a loveful scolding if you 'misbehave'.

It's hard to have a bad experience on mescaline, but it's certainly not unheard of. You need to trust the compound. Mescaline is a very safe psychedelic. But it's definitely not known to be free of bodyload and hypochondria can amplify it. In my opinion, mescaline would be the best beginner psychedelic if it weren't for the long duration. That makes it a certain commitment.

Also psychedelics are not a magic bullet for your problems. Your life won't become better from taking psychedelics. Your life will become better by putting in hard work. Psychedelics can offer a perspective change, and they can give a nudge and potentially provide a period in which change is more easily enacted. But they typically won't help putting in the hard work and maintaining any newly found good habits. You already know in which direction you've got to head. Perhaps a trip is not even what you need.

I'd say go by your heart. I don't know about its price and what you'd get from the purchase. Personally I like to be in control by not trusting strangers. I've been fortunate always having access to clean synthetic mescaline hydrochloride, if that wasn't an option I'd look into the community optimised CIELO tek from r/mescaline on Reddit with a trusted known cultivar:

Mescaline is nothing to be afraid of. But it has to be trusted and respected as the beautiful present it is. If you do an extraction, you can start with very low and controlled doses. Slowly work your way up. Or stop if you realise that it isn't for you. Mescaline is known to shine across a wide dose range, it is not as jangly and uncomfortable as some other psychedelics are in the low dose range.

I live in a city that is very urban, it's all downtown buildings and no green grass anywhere in sight. Will this negatively affect the trip because it lacks nature due to its Urban environment?

I live not far from SF myself. If you have a friend you can go with, I suggest a drive to Big Sur, or even Muir Woods (nice meadows on the mountain above the park (you can just walk up there). Get out of the city if you can. And bear in mind that mescaline is not al all disabling like LSD, so you'll find you can function pretty much as normal. And one thing I forgot to mention: don't mix that with any other drug, especially weed.

Everything you wrote I agree, yet the idea of trusting and respecting the cactus whilst also using an isolated element from it seems contradictory. I appreciate the advantages of using controlled doses etc, but this approach doesn't really provide a genuine experience of the cactus. I think any traditional medicine-man or women would vehemently agree with this perspective. Only in "the west" do we consider it acceptable.

If someone wishes to genuinely derive all the benefits then a so-called "full spectrun" extact would be most effective. Even on r/mescaline, many in the CIELO crowd acknowledge the importance of the other alkaloids, including the person who came up with CIELO. They're still acclimatising to the notion of M acting like an active prodrug though.

@Allylbenzene We may have different views on the matter, and I suppose there is no right or wrong about this. I like taking isolated compounds. I have a materialistic world view. Still I kind of like attach certain "characters" or "souls" to my cute little phenethylamines. They are really important to me, the little guys. I also respect the cactus. I'm growing trichocereus and lophophora from seeds. I also really like those little guys, possibly so much I wouldn't dare to hurt them. Is mescaline alongside its natural alkaloid allies and friends a different experience? - well, very likely. Is it worthwhile to experience the difference? - I suppose, but it's not something I am personally too invested in. Learning from shamans, other cultures, etc, it's all nice and well and important, especially given their long history of use and useful integration into their culture. But I think it is a bit absurd to suggest someone with a western world view should adhere to indigenous traditions completely. I'd suggest to @opiatekrzy to think for themselves where they stand on the whole nature vs synthetic debate, what they want out of the experience, how much in control they want to be, if they want to do it in the first place. In the end it's an intimate experience and exploration of their own mind. Or perhaps their mind and the soul of the cactus, or the isolated compound - I find it arrogant and hurtful that some spiritual people suggest chemicals should have no soul, after a chemist poured their heart and their soul into it, possibly even their freedom.

As for the shaman, you certainly know about Maria Sabina's opionion on Hofmann's psilocybin. But of course there is the counterpoint of how her life and the relationship to the mushrooms changed - whether she enraged the souls of the mushroom or was tainted by her village's reception is a question no mortal may answer.

Maybe I would change my mind if I knew the difference - I know many people who prefer the full spectrum to mescaline - but I wholeheartedly think that even mescaline by itself is a genuinely helpful and uniquely miraculous compound. But it's certainly not a magic pill (I read this hope throughout your text, @opiatekrzy , and I think you should put the hope in yourself not in any plant or compound), and I doubt full spectrum would change that.

@Allylbenzene also please be careful of wording, you suggest I wrote something about respecting the cactus (something I agree with, but there may be disagreement about what constitutes respect and what not). I did not write about the cactus. I wrote about respecting mescaline. And what's more respectful than showing gratitude to a compound by either synthesising or isolating it in its pure form?

I hope we can agree to disagree here. I don't think your opinion is wrong (on the matter of full spectrum), but neither do I think mine is. They can coexist in peaceful harmony.

@opiatekrzy. And you don't need a car to get pretty greenery and nature where you live. Take a bus or walk to Golden Gate Park, Glen Park, McLaren Park, or many smaller parks. Go out to the beach or go to Lands End or the Presidio. All accessible by Muni bus or even by walking ( SF is not that big) You don't have to be trapped in the part of the city in which you live.
You sound like you have anxiety issues. Maybe mescaline will help you, but Nature and relaxation and exercise are very valid, safe ways to ease your symptoms.

Thanks I appreciate your input. After my horrible DMT experience last month I'm very reluctant Doing the mescaline anytime soon

Pharmacologically induced psychedelic experience is not for everyone.

There are many breathing practices which can even themselves induce altered states.

If you are at some point interested in returning to the world of the phenethylamine and indole states of consciousness, I would recommend learning meditation and relaxation techniques. These can help you relax and let go when faced with ego loss/ego death or death anxiety.

Least anxiogenic psychedelics

-2C-I and 4-HO-MET are both pretty good that way, IME.

TheAzo

2C-C is by far the least anxiety provoking psychedelic IMO, 2C-B coming in close second. I also think Mescaline can be very friendly.

-<SpaceHead>

2C-C is magical in this respect. 4-HO-MET, 4-HO-MiPT or 4-HO-MPT are all wonderfully colorful without being too anxiety inducing.

-reformer

5-MeO-DMT. I love it, it is almost like benzo and it gives me state of extreme peacefulness. 2C-I is nice and enjoyable!

-allium

My girlfriend suffers from anxiety and is taking citalopram for it, and she says 4-AcO-DiPT produces no anxiety for her.

-MachoSavage

2c-c by a wide margin. Its hard to even imagine anxiety on 2c-c at less than about 60mg.

-egor

2C-B and 4-AcO-DMT (very very similar drugs) are very easy to handle mentally, 2C-B makes me euphoric and takes me "along for the ride" without any emotional effort.

-danceofdays

5-Me0-DALT is a great psych for a new tripper. It's not heavy mentally or visually. But the bodily euphoria is something else, and it's a great introduction to the profoundness.

-Carver Slice

Well, I tried the 4-AcO-DMT tonight at 10mg. No anxiety or negative sides at all!

-Reefers

Mescaline. Extremely clear headspace, warm visuals that aren't overwhelming. Very much like a warm blanket over a psychedelic.

-SpecialK_

I would have said 2C-C earlier but after trying a few tryptamines I would say 4-HO-DiPT.

This is very well said, I almost fully agree. The part I slightly disagree with is the possibility of bad experience. Ime it's not so rare to have bad experience on it, it's just not so unpleasant, scary or disorienting as bad trip on LSD or mushrooms.

I would definitely go for natural environment for the experience.

Full spectrum Cactus and mescaline are quite different in effects, I personally prefer isolated substance due to less bodyload.

I like taking isolated compounds.
Likewise. I use pure synthetic compounds as well as botanical extracts.

Still I kind of like attach certain "characters" or "souls" to my cute little phenethylamines. They are really important to me, the little guys. I also respect the cactus.
Upon reflection, perhaps it is a question of the "original artist" and their intentions, condition and constitution which leads to the end product & outcome. Whether the artist is a cactus making PEAs and THIQs (eg Pellotine, 5-HT7 inverse agonist) or a human making mescaline, 2-Br-mescaline or a novel 2C compound.

Is mescaline alongside its natural alkaloid allies and friends a different experience? - well, very likely. Is it worthwhile to experience the difference? - I suppose, but it's not something I am personally too invested in.
As an aside - I think the cactus alkaloidal entourage interacts with particular enzymes in a manner conclusive to mescaline activity. Hopefully academics will do the necessary analyses.

Learning from shamans, other cultures, etc, it's all nice and well and important, especially given their long history of use and useful integration into their culture.
I think what is worth considering is their wise understanding of the nature of botanicals, more-so a metaphysical affair and less a cultural one. This wise understanding is universally applicable, thus it seems worth learning about - well, at least the fundamentals!

But I think it is a bit absurd to suggest someone with a western world view should adhere to indigenous traditions completely.
I don't think they should adhere to indigenous traditions completely. I have previously combusted salvia but this is a big "no no" according to traditional understanding (I do also appreciate why they consider it a gross act).

Allylbenzene also please be careful of wording, you suggest I wrote something about respecting the cactus (something I agree with). I did not write about the cactus. I wrote about respecting mescaline.
From my perspective and understanding, mescaline is inexorably connected to the cactus. There is no mescaline without the cactus, hence my wording.

And what's more respectful than showing gratitude to a compound by either synthesising or isolating it in its pure form?
Absolutely. I do wonder how a traditional medicine man or woman would interpret this notion of chemical synthesis. They might find it questionable due to their metaphysical understanding (which I discussed earlier), but I think they would also understand how such a thing could arise from the attitudes in question (eg the scientific ethos). I think after learning about Shulgin and his positive influence on humanity, they would see sense in it and appreciate it's value.

I hope we can agree to disagree here. I don't think your opinion is wrong (on the matter of full spectrum), but neither do I think mine is. They can coexist in peaceful harmony.
For sure, I hope my responses clarify things.
Perhaps this format of written word sometimes gives unintentional notions of "conflict" per se but that's never my intention.

Is there a difference between eating peyote buttons versus having lab grade mescaline powder? If that's what it is these days?
Yes. Particularly peyote is rich in other alkaloids than mescaline, leading to a noticeably different experience. Please only consume peyote that you can confirm has been cultivated and not poached, it is an endangered species and extremely slow growing. A potent trichocereus cultivar is a much cheaper and better choice if you are after the mescaline explicitly.
