Mescaline and isopropyl

What is the best way to evaporate isopropyl alcohol? I may have mescaline dissolved in a gallon of isopropyl, and need some tips on how to evaporate the alcohol. Specifically, I need to evaporate ~450ml of it--a tenth of a gallon--preferably quickly, safely, and without making too much of a mess or smell. I was considering either double boiling it or putting it into a shallow pan and leaving it outside in the summer heat. It would really be great if someone could provide me with a specific estimate of the time needed for both those methods, as well as a detailed process for double boiling; I'd like to make sure I know exactly what I'm doing with that one before I go playing with fire and flammable substances.
Any advice on how to prepare the tar afterwards would be neat, too; my friend recommended mixing in calcium carbonate and rolling the tar in sugar to help get it down..?
Thanks a lot.

Leaving it out in the sun is a good method. If you add a fan blowing gently on it, it will evaporate even faster. All alcohols, including isopropyl, evaporate quickly in the air. Air movement and heat will help them evaporate faster. I can't give you an exact estimate but it'll be pretty quick. It will give off quite a bit of fumes so doing it outside or in an aerated room is important.

I wouldn't bother with the double boiling, I'd just use a fan. It will go quickly.

If you want to double boil, there is really nothing to it. Double boiling is just a pan of boiling water and you set a pan / container / whatever of what you want to cook / evaporate into that boiling water. It is just a way to even out the heat.

If you DO double boil (which I wouldn't), be really careful with alcohol around whatever heat source you're using to boil the water, especially if it's flame.

And if you're going to leave it outside in the sun, make sure you put something over the vessel to prevent animals or children from accidentally ingesting it... you'd have a hell of a mess on your hands then!

xorkoth, double boiling is perfectly safe if using a sparkless source of heat. contrariwise it is perfectly explosive if using flame :)

Isopropyl evaporates VERY quickly outside or in a well ventilated area. I wouldn't use any heat source as it is not needed. If I assume that your heat source (stove) is inside, the air will quickly saturate with the alcohol and the evaporation process will slow down. Plus you will get a +++ solvent buzz from standing in that room (which I do not recommend).

My advice; leave it outside in a vessel that gives you the maximum surface of evaporation. Ex: pouring it in several pans is better than leaving it in a deep container because you get more air contact. This method should be safe and effective.

Like Changed mentioned, be very wary of children and animals. Some animals are drawn to strange things and poison themselves, like cats with antifreeze for example.

On a sidenote: I am so envious! Where do people get pure mescaline!... AAARRRRrrrrrrgh!

1. Increase surface area.
2. Increase temperature.
3. Decrease pressure.

So putting it outside in a shallow pan in heat will be fine. If you were to do it inside, I'd recommend a fan.

Set up a double boiler on an electric stove, with a fan 2 feet away or so blowing over the surface of the Iso solution. Make sure you turn on the stove vent to further break up the concentration of harmful vapors.

Invest in a thermometer so that you can get a reading of your stovetop so that you may avoid auto ignition. The temp for Iso is arguable so I wont post that here :\
