mescaline alcohol extraction question

i'm currently doing an alcohol extraction (iso) and i'm worried i'm not doing it effectively. i'm using 160g. i feel like that's too much, and that there's a lot of powder on the bottom which isn't as close to the alcohol and isn't extracted much. what do you think? i do shake it, but even then, the powder is all clumped-up (instead of like in a snowglob). should i transfer it to other jars?

Could you:
a) Describe your procedure
or
b) Link to a description of a procedure you're following, and note what changes you made?

take san pedro powder, weigh out 160g, put it in a jar, add 91% iso to fill powder and go above it a couple inches, set aside and shake/stir/mix when i get the chance.

^this is where i am so far. after this, i plan to filter out the liquid into another jar using a coffee filter, then repeat the same process a few more times. after this, i'll take the jar with all the liquid on a flat surface for it to evaporate.

so my concern is i have too much powder at once and the iso isn't effectively getting alkaloids from the powder on the bottom. now i'm not sure how it works. perhaps it is no problem, or my concerns are indeed valid.

Yeah it sounds like you used too much cactus in proportion to the container volume and/or alcohol volume. The clumps and slimy blobs should be broken apart and mixed mixed mixed until you really have a homogeneous suspension. Meaning that tiny particles of cactus float around really freely when you swirl the liquid around.

You're right, there should be contact between the plant matter and liquid for extraction to happen so..... make it happen! :)
Don't worry too much about it as long as you give the powder some good contact for a minute by getting everything to fly around in the liquid, add liquid if its not possible otherwise.
You can let it settle for some time like an hour or two in between shakes but obviously best is to do it as often as possible because it renews the contact surface and extracting part of liquid.
k?
