I'm pretty sure the smell is because it is methylamino, it's not the solvent. The smell comes from the ammonia in the methylamine/triethylamine (probably the triethylamine). Even the slightest amount of that stuff that isn't cleaned off will add that stink. I have seen some stuff with virtually no smell.

I think both chemicals are reasonably soluble in warm water (triethylamine less so), so they are probably absorbing into water in your body which is then sweated out? Sweating that stuff out would explain the rash too. A little bit of that stuff goes a long way... It can be smelt in just 0.1-0.48 parts per million. So less than one millionth of a gram will produce a slight odor, i'm guessing it's much higher than that no matter what you do to purify it.

Methylamine is almost always used to make MDMA, and no matter how shit the synth or purification it never smells like meph, so it's probably the triethylamine. That or maybe your body metabolises it in to a molecule you sweat out that smells, which isn't that likely given that the stuff already smells before it goes in. I'm hardly an expert but I think an educated guess suggests triethylamine, especially as all descriptions of the smell of that raw chemical, the persistence of the smell, and it's ability to cause rashs and stuff, all match up. The way to find out for sure would be to find a synth route for methylone, because that doesn't really smell any where near meph at all - if it doesn't use tri then it probably is tri causing the extra stinkyness of meph.

Did a quick search and couldn't find anything overly substantial that claims Methylamine itself has an overly powerful smell.

So like most crystalline drugs, the main smell comes from how purely it has been washed, yes?

It states directly on the methylamine wiki page it has a strong odor of fish. Triethylamine is stronger though apparently (http://www.chemguide.co.uk/organicprops/amines/background.html). It would be a bit odd if the smell of meph and the smell of amines were roughly the same but it was just a coincidence. I don't think you could really wash the meph enough to get the tri out to the point that it didn't still smell if it lets off odors in such low ppm. I believe methylamine on the other hand needs higher concentrations to smell as bad as triethylamine.
 
Oh excuse me, I used "Find" to look for the word "smell". It wasn't there, so I made an assumption. Silly me!

I wonder is the whole "preban smelled stronger" thing just because it was all dodgy Chinese labs? They probably wouldn't waste time washing so much.
I've had a bag of Meph in my wallet for quite a while now, and my wallet isn't starting to smell of it, haha.

The smell his finally broken through the Lynx. Wonderful.
 
When I was reading about to try and figure it out, apparently way back there used to be yellow chinese meph that stank through 2 heat sealed bags, so I assume that was super impure. Now it's not made by cowboys, it's made by real pharma companies, I imagine that's why it's got purer and there is less smell. But even at 99.8% pure there is still easily room there for say 1 part in a thousand to be methylamine or triethylamine, which I guess is 1000 ppm! The strangest thing is that for me, this drug would be all the better without that love hate rank smell, but for a lot of my friends there is this insistence that a stronger smell means a better/stronger product. Even when you can see that it is actually shitter.

When I was reading about it said they generally use a mixture of triethylamine and methylamine in a solution of ch2cl2. It looks like you use 8 parts methylamine to 1 part triethylamine.
 
I can tell you from my and my friends' experiences that craving fades away over time. Luckily ive never been into booze. Many guys i know get massive cravings when going above that 6-beer line. Yes i do stupid things on weed too sometimes, but it never let me crave for something, expect more weed ofcourse.

After coming to the conclusion quitting meph is pointless, i'll just do it occasionaly now. Like Mdma. 1-2 times per 2 months. Mdma(even the 84% discoshit) makes me drowsy, yet lovey and euphoric, but just wanna lie down with a good friend and just talk all night for no reason, so for a rave ima take meph or d-amphetamine+GHB, mdma makes me too spacey sometimes, not able to focus on the music and shit.

Yep i love meph, have a relatively low tolerance for it(200mg oral with a 100mg booster 1 hour after first dose, sends me to a 4-hour heaven, after wich i redose with 100-150mg snorted lines every hour and a half. Just little under a gram from 11PM-8AM. I notice no really comedown, cause when im almost at my last line, i start toking doobies big time. Usually able to eat and sleep 3-4 hours after last dose. Mdma often keeps me awake&anorexic for 12 hours after dosing if there's no valium/xanax etc. available. So yes, for raves/party's/festivals i prefer meph over mdma. Mdma is IMHO something to do with one or two close friends, or your partner.

Ratteling a lot i see. Did 100mg rectal d-amp(69%) and 2mg etizolam sublinqual around an hour ago, feeling pretty relaxed. Just laying in my bed smoking spliffs, drinking some ice cold Heineken, and listening some real ass Drum 'n bass on my new Bose sound system. Good start of the weekend indeed. :D

meph sweat... never used to get it, which is odd, most people i met would sweat a lot. at raves sometimes i would hardly sweat, dunno wtf that was about. its only since the ban it makes me sweat, dunno why. saying that, alcohol and MXE seem to make me sweat more these days, dunno why. guess the way my body processes stuff these days has changed
