Mephedrone Megathread VIII: Hnnnng!

bad batch talk and guessing purity/what people who died took is useless speculation and not helpful to anyone really, i'd prefer if the conversation didn't go down that route.

Mephedrone has pretty much put me off drugs (minus the 'socially acceptable' ones), hopefully for life. What this drug did my friendship group scared the shit out of me.

We went from a group of mates who got fucked on the weekend on pills or k or whatnot, went to the pub a couple of times a week through the week and smoked weed sometimes. Probably shocking to the average daily mail reader, but pretty restrained.

After mephedrone people started binging for 3-6 days with no food or sleep getting through stupid quantities. A couple of mates are still hopelessly addicted to the stuff, can't get out of bed without it. One tried to kill themselves. Three dropped out of uni; all but me lost their jobs.

I hope my mates get it sorted out (a subgroup of us have and have pretty much sworn off drugs for life now) but to see what a stupid shit drug like drone has done to bright, sociable, happy people is disgusting. I haven't taken anything for a good couple of months now and really hope I don't.

similar situation for me, but since the return of md things have been looking up a bit

Yeah everyone apart from the 2 which are still mad with the stuff doesn't take it anymore, but the long term depression and anxiety that's left in many is difficult to comprehend until you compare what their personalities used to be like vs now. Things are looking up after a good couple of months but it took a lot of out of a lot of people I know.

To be honest; I think the media is being quite kind with this drug. They could of went for a crystal meth/crack boom style approach to it all, instead they're treating it as just another mad party drug that needs banned.

i recon when its banned and harder to obtain via the internet there will be a nuber of home synths and dodgy batches going about, so best likely to avoid at all costs after the ban.

am i fuck dying over mephedrone lol

nobody in their right mind would bother synthesizing this shite once there are criminal penalties attached to said synthesis.

yeah there are bound to be people not in their right mind attempting to cook up methcathinone instead and then people really will end up getting poisoned...

or maybe all the mephedrone fans will just stop taking drugs when it is banned instead of looking for something to fill the void with...

as for talk about dodgy batches/cuts, people happily take this risk every day all over the country with other recreational drugs and numbers of people dying from impurities seems to be a pretty rare occurence - stating the obvious, the press massively increasing awareness of mephedrone and inevitably the number of people taking it, seems a simple enough explanation for deaths involving it coming to light, plus they have even more motive to publish the stories while it's topical...

fuck taking the chance anyway, it's a shitty drug that made me spend a year of my life acting like a twat. I don't miss it and don't care about a ban but the wider impact on the RC scene it's bound to have due to all this attention is really annoying.

You should listen to PMQ time from wednesday of this week. At about 12.18pm (maybe 12.21) Gordon Brown addresses the subject thus.

Ban it? You can't even fucking say it.

Oh btw, everyone seems to have missed this. He definitely says ACMD will report on Monday and "I shall act immediately"

March 29th ban? Of Method-er-one, not mephedrone obviously.

I think they will ACT immediately, as in get the ball rolling but a ban can't happen same day. It could take several days I understand to rush a draft ammendment through both houses.

It will be interesting to see if they bow to media pressure for an immediate ban and ride roughshod over the EU directive which states that they have to give three months notice to the commission - the Irish gov have just given their three months notice so mephedrone will be banned there from 1st June.

EU law

http://europa.eu/legislation_summar...r_goods/technical_harmonisation/l21003_en.htm

....
Every Member State must notify the Commission of its draft technical rules or amendment of technical regulations, the grounds for them and, where necessary, the main basic legislative and regulatory provisions of the draft regulation. Where the draft limits the marketing or use of a chemical substance for public health, consumer or environmental protection reasons, the characteristics, effects and risks of the product must also be specified.

The Commission will inform all the other Member States of the draft notified. Their comments will be taken into account, where possible, in the final version of the technical regulation.

In order to allow the Commission and other Member States to react, the Member States must refrain from adopting any draft technical regulations for three months from the date of receipt by the Commission.
....

But here:

http://www.labour.ie/press/listing/126892746112324292.html

it states that in emergencies they can disregard the 3 month rule...

Best guess is they will rush through mephedrone ban but a catch all clause on beta-ketones will take a number of months for them to get through as presumably they will need to have careful scientific input to make it water tight..

I'm sorry, but it's not mephedrone that caused that. It's the individual people's fault, not the drugs. I've taken meph binges too far, so have some of my mates but not one person that I know has came close to ruining their life, or staying up for 6 days rattling drone. Are your mates getting a different batch of drone from me? Or is it more likely that their own personalities/stupidity/ignorance (helped along a bit by the drugs) caused these things?

I'm glad someone else put words to that effect PT CH, I would've myself but I'm sick of always being the fly in the ointment.

Yep. At some point you have to ask, is it a good idea to be doing binges, and binges on a _school night_. Of course not. It's not exactly brilliant idea on any poison, ie booze.

Meph is great, but its not sugar, you dont add it to every part of your life unless you are superman....and even then.

Nice one polly :)

It is so jaw-droppingly starfish clenchingly shit that you know our nation is almost entirely retarded and short sighted enough to let the cuntservatives win bylandslide at the next general election and that our lives as drugfolk will be infinitely more difficult. I might go and clusterfuck david cameron with a rubber blackmamba tipped with a 3g peevee plug.At least that will stop the barely veiled demonic cunt smiling like he just got the lastcookie for a while grumblegrumblerantrant

I hadn't really thought too deeply about the effect the Tories would have on drugs policy but the idea sent a bit of a shiver down my spine there.

I like the idea that the ACMD has to have a vet on it. I suppose it's because veternary medicines can be taken by humans for giggles.

So now the ACMD is not quorate. If my experience of student politics is anything to go by, as soon as a body becomes inquorate everyone downs tools & goes home.

This is basically what the article implies. As I understand it, if the council doesn't have all its required posts fully staffed, then it becomes virtually useless as an advisory committee.

This, to me, puts the Government in an awkward position (hehe!): if they do go ahead later today (or this week) and decide to ban mephedrone, then it will not have been done on the advice of the ACMD. This will prove previous accusations that the ACMD is ignored by the Government and is in place as a kind of a token gesture...

Dr Taylor looks to have played a nice little snooker here... but the Government will still win the game in the end - they will just change the rules.

Still hopefully It won't be banned before everyones pay day should give england a good stockpile boost me thinks :)
