Mephedrone and its relation with dopamine and serotonine...

I was looking into some info on wiki, and I found this on mephedrone...

An article published in a 2011 edition of British Journal of Pharmacology examined the effects of mephedrone, MDMA, and amphetamine in the nucleus accumbens of rats. Dopamine and serotonin were collected using microdialysis, and increases in dopamine and serotonin were measured using HPLC. Reward and drug seeking are linked to increases in dopamine concentrations in the nucleus accumbens, and drug half-life plays a role in drug seeking as well. Based on histological examination, most of the author's probes were in the nucleus accumbens shell. Mephedrone administration caused a ~500% increase in dopamine, and a ~950% increase in serotonin. They reached their peak concentrations at 40 minutes and 20 minutes, respectively, and returned to baseline by 120 minutes post injection. In comparison, MDMA caused a ~900% increase in serotonin at 40 minutes, with a non-significant increase in dopamine. Amphetamine administration resulted in a ~400% increase in dopamine peaking at 40 minutes, with a non-significant increase in serotonin. Analysis of the ratio of the AUC for dopamine (DA) and serotonin (5-HT) indicated that mephedrone was preferentially a serotonin releaser, with a ratio of 1.22:1 (serotonin vs. dopamine). Additionally, half-lives for the decrease in DA and 5-HT were calculated for each drug. Mephedrone had decay rates of 24.5 minutes and 25.5 minutes, respectively. MDMA had decay values of 302.5 minutes and 47.9 minutes, respectively, while amphetamine values were 51 minutes and 84.1 minutes, respectively. Taken together, these findings show that mephedrone induces a massive increase in both DA and 5-HT, combined with rapid clearance. The rapid rise and subsequent fall of DA levels could explain some of the addictive properties that mephedrone displays in some users.[90]

I am no shulgin, but for the article above, I understand that meph releases more serotonine than even MDMA!! also, while MDMA does not affect the dopamine receptors (thats why pure clean MDMA can nailed you ass to the ground) meph does it even in a higher rate than amphs.. no wonder why ppl like this drug so much, its like a perfect combo between MDMA and coke...

Now, I have never ever done meph, but for what Ive read, ppl binged on this thing for days, or even more... being a strong serotonine releaser, wouldnt it have the same sides as MDMA abuse? I can see that it can be used much more frecuently than MDMA, because is a strong DA releaser as well, and dopamine, even on its own feels pretty damn good, I would guess that after the second or third day binged, meph is purely acts on the dopamine receptors, so the empathy is gone... Would that be accurate?

Should the 4-6 weeks (minimun) MDMA rule be apply to meph in order to avoid serotoninic sides??

I have seen reports quite to the contrary on mephedrone- but as this is a fairly new and unresearched drug, there are going to be lots of conflicting data.

The DEA apparently put an emergency scheduling on both mephedrone and methylone on September 7th, 2011. I was sad to hear this, as a fan of mephedrone and methylone. They are both chemicals I've enjoyed sharing with my friends this year.

Mephedrone seems to have a pretty decent anxiety-relieving quality about it until the comedown. I can't say it's better or worse than MDMA.
 
Technically Mephedrone is still available at the moment. The federal regulation doesn't go into effect for at least 30 days after the 9/7 announcement about the intended ban. Could be longer than 30 days, but who knows. It will be on that day that it will be scheduled temporarily (probably eventually permanently of course.)

Of course state laws are popping up left and right, so its definitely on its last breath a far as a quasi-legal substance. But technically its not banned just yet..
 
In the right hands, mephedrone could have been a productive drug. Used for alertness, relieving social anxiety (temporarily) and curing daytime-sleepiness.

Oh well, just another black mark on the analogue laws.

I think it's debatable whether mephedrone could be used in an effective manner to relieve social anxiety.

MDMA does effect dopamine, that's why it feels very different to pure serotonin releasers like MDAI. MDMA effects a whole cocktail of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine.
(Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MDMA and many many more...). This cocktail is fundamental to the "magic" behind MDMA.

I would also imagine that mephedrone abuse has a quite different profile to MDMA abuse. You can get away with doing mephedrone daily for 4-5 days (not a good idea, but yeah), I can't imagine what state you would be in if you dropped MDMA for 5 days in a row. I would say abusing mephedrone is a lot more similar to abusing coke, than abusing MDMA.

this is why ive always prefered meph over mdma. plus meph has never given me brain zaps, unlike mdma. but the come downs are terrible
 
the comedowns from MDMA are a past history from me, since I've started taken piracetam, there is absolutely no come down, dont know why, but there just isnt... (though sleep paralysis, brain zaps and not wanting to do shit with my life for 3 to 4 days are a bitch)

Could piracetam make the comedown on meph any easier?

Hearing that loud and clear , i know what you mean , MDMA has a bad habit of making my brain "zap" aswell..

I knew I should have taken advantage of the opportunity to get more of it easily. Lame. I only did it 'once' (like 5 days worth, but I count that as 'one time').
