Basically my muscle tissue had melted and had gone to fill up my kidneys, the doctor said it was a miracle my kidneys were saved.
A process called rhabdomyolysis which can be triggered by almost all recreational drugs.
They sent out the diphenidine bag my parents found next to my bed, the current batch(from UK), it's packed full of nephrotic by products, parent compound and untreated precursor or so the local authorities said. That's why I almost lost my kidneys.
Now you're saying the impurities directly killed your kidneys. This is sort of contradicting the former statement. I don't see the impurities in half a gram of drug do direct damage to your kidneys to such an extent.
Is it possible to request the analysis of the substance, a summary of the clinical findings and diagnosis made and share them with us? They have to hand those out to you. It's these events that the community can really learn from. Depending on who was treating you, they might be writing an article on the case anyway, but it would be huge if you could go through the trouble to get that data and post it here.
Your liver is probably gonna recover just fine, don't worry about that too much.
How much kidney function are you left with now? Really sorry to hear about those, your life will most definitely not be the same anymore. Hopefully not only in respect to your nephrotic health though, but also when it comes to your substance abuse. Be aware that rhabdomyolysis does not happen exclusively in diphenidine intoxications, it is an adverse reaction to almost all recreational drugs! Here are a few examples:
Comparison of prevalence and severity of rhabdomyolysis in stimulant users:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25468315
Synthetic cannabinoid causing rhabdomyolysis:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25179201
Case report of LSD causing rhabdomyolysis:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20587768
You get the idea, there really isn't any synthetic recreational drug that cannot cause rhabdomyolysis. So you should neither entertain your illusion that other drugs will be safe to use in respect to adverse affects such as this, nor should you blame it all on diphenidine. However, it might be more likely to happen with said substance than with other dissociatives, but it's tough to attain reliable data on that without having an idea of the prevalence of diphenidine use.
As your drug worker said, it would be really really nice if you could give us the data I mentioned, so we can get a better picture of what exactly happened to you.
Thanks a lot for the report. I hope you manage to cope well enough with this!
EDIT: Btw, why are we all blaming this on the diphenidine? It's been shown before that rhabdomyolysis is not only more likely to occur when multiple substances have been used, but can also be triggered by stimulant use alone.
Half a gram of ethylphenidate sounds like a lot. Unless there are specific impurities that are highly likely to cause such a reaction, I don't see why we are blaming the diphenidine. Not saying we should look at diphenidine as being safer than it seems after what happened, but we should at least raise our scepticism towards said stimulant as well.
Oh and here is an overview on which agents are most commonly causing RM.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24397200
This reminded me that I once, too, had moderate RM with a CK of 1534. It was triggered by n,n-diisopropyltryptamine and 1,4-butanediol. Didn't think I had a 30% chance of dying then lol. Bad luck I guess.
The horn factor and immense diving boardesque hard on’s the next day were unbelievable…..never experienced anything like it.
You, too? Makes MDPV and booze seem like a joke. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if diphenidine ever had me go on a baby raping spree. PCP used to do this to me, too, btw.
