Mental health problems and LSD?

Basically i suffer from depression and post traumatic stress from a house fire, i have been seeing a psychiatrist who is trying to psychoanalysis me.

My friend is desperate to try LSD and i'd really love to give it a go but i hear that if you already suffer from mental health problems and you try it your more likley to have a bad trip...

Plus i am only 15..

Its a really bad idea but how can i out it to her...?

It sounds to me like LSD could be very beneficial to you. At the same time, if you have true mental health issues it could cause problems (Depression doesn't count 90% of the time as it's in your head, as it were and not chemical) but in all likelihood you would find your symptoms eased if not eradicated by a positive LSD experience, I had similar. It's a judgement call though on your part. If you feel that you have mental health issues then it'd probably be best not to drop, but it's up to you. If you do, make sure you have someone around to watch you and NOT be anywhere near your parents.

Humm. I remember being 15 and doing acid. I always thought the more you took the better. I don't mean to be patronising but it's pretty usual when younger to take more than your adolescent mind would prefer. LSD can be an amazing substance, some of the best visuals and awe-inspiring moments i've ever experienced were on acid but it's worth noting that it's a potent psychedelic that's often more unpredictable than many others on this green earth, as your concerned post testifies. My advice?... Go with your instincts and if you don't have any of those take a low dose. Half a tab perhaps. Hand on heart some of the most euphoric trips I've had were on a low dose, if anyone tells you that's not the way to do it, tell them you do what you like, and if they don't respect it tell em to fuck off.

I\(Depression doesn't count 90% of the time as it's in your head, as it were and not chemical)

This statement shows a really profound ignorance not only of the experience of depression but of any basic understanding of psychiatry, not to mention it belittles the suffering of people who do suffer from depression.

I don't think I even really have to get into it.

I bet you're of the opinion that these people should just suck it up and not take psych meds because ... drugs are bad? And yet recreational drugs somehow okay?

That's always an opinion that has baffled the hell out of me.

If it wasn't for psych meds, I probably wouldn't be around here, much less functioning at a decent level. Ditto for psychedelics. Although both have done me dirty at times, as well. Better living through chemistry means better living through chemistry. And it's not always clear cut or easy. Not better living through some chemistry as arbitrarily defined by ... who, anyway?

And mental illness is a neurochemical entity, because WE are neurochemical entities. Every feeling we have has a neurochemical basis. So what, pray tell, is "only in your head, not chemical" ... whatever is in your head, is chemical.

and OP, stay away from drugs for a few years. I truly wish I had waited till I was older. Psychedelics do not give you any answers, they only open up a lot of doors and ask a lot of questions, and a lot of that would do well to wait until you have a greater context of life experience

I suffered alot from anxiety and after dropping L it almost felt like my brain was being re-wired. You can think your self to any place that you want to be in your life.

I dropped my first L at the age of 16. Amazing experience to say the least. Showed me the beauty of life and how your mind state produces your physical reality. It cured my anxiety and allowed me to express my self in ways i could not before the expansion of the inner cortex. The after glow lasted for about 3 weeks - 1 month.

If your comfortable with your self and the situation that you expect to drop. Go for it. Throw on your favorite music. Get comfortable and let your mind expand. 8o

Who knows if its a good idea. No one hear can give you the definitive answer you seek, however based purely on your age I would say to wait(I tried LSD at 16 though so....). Its really up to you(there will always be fear but the difference is if your ready to overcome that fear).

You'll giggle your cock off.
But like most things it may be worth waiting until someone else isn't responsible for you.
Because ultimately doing hard drugs is a pretty major insult and if something goes wrong or you get caught being high on LSD at 15, the implications for your parents/guardians are pretty severe.
Ultimately what seems like a good idea and a bit of fun could end up being a bad decision. Since others are ultimately responsible for your actions, you should really show some consideration to how they would feel if you got caught.

well acctually it would be good to

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2630149/

be carefull- acid is known to trigger mania (it has in me):\

Everyones saying my parents will be pissed if i get caught tripping of it.... My mum has seen me on all types of substances and had not noticed... i smoke weed in my bedroom almost everyday and stink up my house of it and she sayd nothing...
LOL she may be a crappy mum but that aint my problem... I'd rather do it in a house than outside at night because i don't think it would be a comfortable environment for tripping.
Thank you all for your adice though, its made me feel alot better.

LOL this website has been more hepful to me than "talk to frank" the drugs info website.
To be honest i think honesty is much more effecive with teenagers than just preaching that drugs are bad and all that.

If you do decide to take it make sure you take a very low dose for your first time. As it's an extremely powerful medicine and takes some getting used to.

I think the benefit it can have for depression is the catharsis - you'll feel very, very deep emotions that may make you sob your heart out or laugh yourself silly. Having a good cry on a psychedelic is different to ordinary crying, for me it's a lot more cathartic.

I think they can give some kind of emotional "answer" that you can't find anywhere else. Sobbing your heart out on a psychedelic is an incredibly important and powerful experience. So is laughing on a psychedelic. I don't think you can find anything like that anywhere in life other than psychedelic exploration.

But it all depends on the type of person you are, some people (like me) find psychedelics to be absolute life-savers and the most important experience they've ever had in life, and others don't get much from the experience. Psychedelics are the only thing that have ever helped my depression. Without them life would be a waste of fucking time.

Does it make you like talkative... or like lively...?
Or is it similar to ketamin when you feel slightly paralyzed?
Also my friend wants to do it at this dodgy squat party but because we're inexperienced and alot of people there will be freaky meth heads i said we should do it in my bedroom with another close friend, low lighting, fairy lights and lots of pillows and cushions on my bedroom floor (like a little nest) and possibly relaxing and familiar music.

I have also heard all these ridiculous stories and although I pretend not to believe them i kind of do...
Like some kid told me he knew someone who was fucked on LSD and they thought they was an orange and peeled their skin.. :S
I doubt thats true...
