^^Oh come off it... because there's nothing cool about that ghetto shit. I highly doubt he was selling crack to feed himself, and on the rare occasions that someone is literally starving, there's always options (even in the hood - shelters, pantries, odd jobs, neighbors, friends or with nothing else - panhandling).

As for this being the result of the drug war, yeah it's a consequence. The drug war sucks, for everyone. My question is though, since people brought it up in the first place, what exactly would people like this do if drugs were legal and sold in stores? Get jobs? What are gangs going to do for money without their biggest income? They'd just shift to other crimes.

Also: While they probably didn't have anyone teach 'em better, playing with loaded guns pointed at each other, fingers on the trigger is some darwin award shit.
 
There's nothing inherently wrong with selling crack though, better to work than mooch.
 
Considering we live in the real world, and it's illegal, I'd say it's better to mooch than to commit felonies. I also have kind of a cognitive dissonance thing going with the idea of selling highly addictive drugs in general (especially unregulated), because they fuck people up. I can't really support people profiting from others' misery. That's kind of a tough call because of the whole supply/demand thing, and that people are going to try to get fucked up anyway, but that doesn't change the horrible effects of addiction. I've seen too many (otherwise decent) people fucked up and dead from hard drug use to be supportive of drugs in general.
 
I don't think people should follow fascist laws. Man I fucked my self up from my polydrug addiction (mostly heroin) and still support it.
 
This sounds par for the course for Memphis. A friend of mine's dad got robbed at gunpoint when they lived in Memphis. The would-be robber found out he only had $5 in his wallet and just walked away.

Yeah, I'm a polydrug trash can with a heroin focus myself. We're mostly on the same side, but for clarity's sake, my point was more along the lines of 'if you know it's illegal and you're going to get fucked for it, why not avoid it as best as possible?'. I've been beat down by the system at a fairly young age... it's always a shame when I now see kids get fucked up in the game, since they don't really understand the consequences of their actions.

Poverty? Get real!

No one sitting around with a roof, food in their belly, with thousands of dollars on their lap, latest clothes, mobile phones, plenty drinks, clean water, drugs and guns, is living in anything resembling poverty.

Go and see rural Thais existing in shacks next to open sewers, struggling to feed themselves and their children, who don't turn to selling crack and waving guns around, and you've truly experienced poverty.

Behave like an out and out stereotype and you'll be regarded as one.

It's all good man.... I hear ya. I do agree that these images of drugs and violence are portraying an image that is detrimental to the perception of black culture. I am so glad my niece has a good family environment despite the fact her father is doing six for armed robbery. We love her and she will always be a baby to us. I will do anything to show her that she is beautiful and can accomplish anything she puts her mind towards.

I wasn't talking about this particular thugs image. I just took offense to the statement that "Niggas ain't baby faced even when they are babies." I know F33lsgood didn't mean any harm by what he said and it was all in jest. I just really hope that my niece doesn't fall victim to this kind of cultural glorification. Especially since her father was caught up in this kind of lifestyle.

Ya got me twisted, I meant it's redundant to call him babyfaced because at 13 he's still a baby; course he's gonna have a baby face. I think babyfaced should be a term reserved for nonbabys. Yadamean?
