Opioids Memory loss due to opioid usage?

So I've been on opioids, one kind or another (legally prescribed) for an ongoing medical condition since before 2008, how long before, not exactly sure, but prolly into 2007 at least. Anywhom, I seem to be really really forgetful lately. Not like, oh I missed my appointment and need to write everything down type forgetful, but I forget what I did for breakfast yesterday, or if my dad said something I forget, or legit don't even remember the conversation we supposedly had.
(tho, he's like 60 and is losing his mind too so I'm not too sure on his reliability).

But my friends sometimes say, "oh remember when.." and I have a hard time remembering and they often have to refresh my memory, dig deep and be very specific. I mostly remember, but need coaching. I thought it might have had something to do with my liver disease, because ensepathy (is that the right word?) confusion, is a symptom of liver failure. But I had a transplant a year ago and thought I'd see some improvement.

I thought maybe the switching of meds here and there, adjusting doses and such could have contributed? But I dunno.

Then I thought, what about the drugs. I've been on OC and Dilauded for about a year now, been on the OC for longer, actually. And I have been switched between a few different ones.

Anyone ever heard of long term use affecting memory? (Do people consider 5 years "long term use?")?

hey man sorry about your problems! I do think the opioids could have affected your memory. I too have a hard time remembering certain days or conversations with people like friends and they have to kinda go back to tell me and even then sometimes only vaguely remember. i dont have any health problems but i do take a lot of drugs so im guessing they are a big part of the culprit

i do consider 5 years pretty long use but nothing crazy
 
Of course they affect your memory.
Do some research on various nootropics to boost that back up, since it doesn't sound like you're much in a situation to choose to get off opiods.
 
It is most certainly the opiates affecting your memory.

I also have this problem, forgetting conversations and/or "that one time..." although it was much worse when I also had a problem with benzos. I suppose maybe because of that I seem to find it pretty manageable now with opiates on their own.

Haha Thomas, seriously, I know whatcha mean, they can help you forget how long you've been stuck in fucking bed and how miserable you feel bc of infection! I hear that lol.

Dexter, what are nootropics? I think it's a misspelling and I can't really figure out what you are trying to say there.. Is it a drug that can help my memory? Yea, I have chronic pain because of an enlarged spleen, doubt I'd be able to e off the meds anytime soon. Supposedly the spleen was gonna shrink after surgery, but it didn't! Kinda pissed me off thy didn't remove that to but I guess it's better they didn't because then I'd be really fn sick all the time and have a worse immune system than I do now!
