hey guys,

this is the last day of finals

as a preface, i started taking memantine in late december- started off with 10mg every day that i remembered then progressed to 20mg and 30mg and staggered periodically between them. they always seemed to blunt the effects of addy but not today they didnt.

i have been awake for ~ 34 hours now cus ive been cramming

anyways, at about 2 am today (~8 hours ago) i was feeling tired and such, so i kinda zombie semi studied til~ 7 am. then i took 4 memantine 10mg's and 45 mg addy IR --- at about 9 30 am (right in the middle of my final i just had) i began to notice that i was feeling weird, not the "ideal" focus and feeling addy feeling, more like too much racing thoughts and ultra cotton mouth i finished my final as best i could and then left

as i was walking i noticed my heartbeat was way too fucking fast and that i felt like i was floating then i realized i am way too fucking high

i just got back to my dorm and i gotta another final in 2 hours, is there anything i can do that would take me down a notch? soda? help!:!

Hi azureufc,

Hope you are feeling better and at your final. :)

I'm not familiar with memantine however I wanted to mention that the effects of no sleep for 34 hours can severely mess with your mind and body. When I've pulled allnighters the next day can be very dreamy and surreal like with the effect of psychoactive drugs being greatly increased. The extreme racing thoughts and disassociated floating while walking feeling could also be symptoms of a panic attack which is reasonable considering the lack of sleep, stimulant drugs, and stressful environment. Or just be effects similar to a panic attack caused by the situation.

Panic attack physiology from wikipedia in NSFW
NSFW:
While the various symptoms of a panic attack may cause the victim to feel that their body is failing, it is in fact protecting itself from harm. The various symptoms of a panic attack can be understood as follows. First, there is frequently (but not always) the sudden onset of fear with little provoking stimulus. This leads to a release of adrenaline (epinephrine) which brings about the so-called fight-or-flight response wherein the person's body prepares for strenuous physical activity. This leads to an increased heart rate (tachycardia), rapid breathing (hyperventilation) which may be perceived as shortness of breath (dyspnea), and sweating (which increases grip and aids heat loss). Because strenuous activity rarely ensues, the hyperventilation leads to a drop in carbon dioxide levels in the lungs and then in the blood. This leads to shifts in blood pH (respiratory alkalosis or hypocapnia), which in turn can lead to many other symptoms, such as tingling or numbness, dizziness, burning and lightheadedness. Moreover, the release of adrenaline during a panic attack causes vasoconstriction resulting in slightly less blood flow to the head which causes dizziness and lightheadedness. A panic attack can cause blood sugar to be drawn away from the brain and towards the major muscles. It is also possible for the person experiencing such an attack to feel as though they are unable to catch their breath, and they begin to take deeper breaths, which also acts to decrease carbon dioxide levels in the blood.

Anyways although it may be too late for you all I would be able to suggest to other people is try and stay hydrated, have a light snack, and lie down and relax to try and rest your body. Just be sure you don't fall asleep and miss your exam!

Good luck. :)

Just relax. It does sound like (read the link amapola provided) you experienced a panic attack.

Eat a light meal/snack, avoid consuming other stimulants (including caffeine, coffee, etc) and you'll be okay.

After your exam I recommend consuming some vitamin C and magnesium to relax your muscles and speed the excretion of amphetamine (Adderall) from your system. Good luck on your exam!
