Been lurking these forums for quite some time, and I've seen no one from Melbourne, what's the deal. Probably haven't been looking hard enough, haha. Haven't had a chance to drop yet, but here's hoping.

Melbourne <3

There are quite a few Melburnians on here, myself not included. Sending your thread to Aus Social :)

Melburnian

A person from Melbourne is a Melburnian. The variant spelling 'Melbournian' is considered grammatically incorrect as well as making us mel-BORN-ian whereas we are mel-BURN-ian. Sometimes you'll see Melburnite (but they have no idea).

Local knicknames for people from Melbourne are Mexicans, W.A. and Perth are Sandgropers, Adelaide (South Australia) are Crow Eaters, Sydney (NSW) are Cockroaches, Brisbane (QLD) are Cane Toads, Northern Territory are Territorians, Darwinian from Darwin and people from Tasmania are called Tasmanians.

Lurk fail...

(and surely people from Tasmania are called Cletus and Brandine)

hahah am I the only one that calls Victorians, mexicans? its pretty common slang over here in WA.. my old man has been sayin it for aslong as I can remember...

You're not the only one, it's very common. You know, because they're 'South of the border'

Not if you live in Tasmania! lol..

Yeah i understand why, just surprised i've never heard it before, but after saying that, i read it in the news last night.

MELBOURNE FOREVER! I was lucky enough to be into the rave scene in Melbourne from 1997 to 2000 which was recognised world wide by ravers AND DJ's as one of the most kick ass rave destinations. Proven by the number of world class DJ's played at our warehouse parties. Those of you who were there know what i'm talking about - WHERE ARE YOU ALL??? - And the Melbourne Shuffle started with us, i gotta laugh now its gonna mainstream - it only took them 15 years to catch on. Haha.

I miss proper raves SO much.. back when we all made our own costumes, there were no macho idiots out to fight from too much ice, no sniffer dogs or cops, warehouses big enough to swallow a jumbo jet, next day parties on the beach and in parks, crazy last minute raves where you had to call a number or know the right people, good ecstasy almost ever time, and the sense of community and unity - PLUR actually meant something. We were a family. You could rock up to a party on your own and know everyone there by the end of the night. Amazing.

I would do ANTHING to go back to those days. I've posted on that topic before. But yeah I would chop off an arm to go and live it all again. I just had to try and look on the bright side and rejoice in the fact I was part of something so special instead of being sad its gone.

Note: It was rhe fucking nightclub owners association who rallied the government to make it nearly impossible to get permits for warehouse parties, as all the nightclubs were losing patrons going to raves instead. That happened in the early 2000s and now the only big events are the gobal labels who have the power to buy permits and influencec the right people.

MELBOURNE FOREVER!
