I briefly examined myself in the mirror only to become truly shocked with the reflection that greeted me. No longer did my face carry any hints of youthful optimism; tears of sorrow and regret betrayed what were once gleeful and bright eyes. Bags hung almost to the wrinkles along my now permanent frown. I thought for a moment, 'where does the youth, happiness and love go when we are no longer using it?' Finally, I retired and stared at the wall which did me a simple favor by not reflecting my miserable state.

This quote was partially inspired by a story I am writing, and partially inspired by feelings of sadness.

brings to mind Lord Henry in The Picture of Dorian Gray

'to get back one's youth one has merely to repeat one's follies.'
