Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what drugs are out there that can help with withdrawal from drugs.

My doctor once prescribed Clonidine (tapered dose, .4 mg, .3 mg, .2 mg, .1 mg) to help with physical withdrawals from smoking.

I also know that Wellbutrin (especially for me) can be VERY effective in quitting smoking.

I read online (possible at www.webmd.com, but I can't find the article write now) that Depakote can help with addition.

I'm just wondering if there are any other (non-opioid) medications that can be used to help with addiction and withdrawal.

I did UTFSE and most of the information was regarding withdrawal from opioids using other opiods, such as methadone, Suboxone, etc. This is exact OPPOSITIVE of the question I asked. Maybe if you had read my f'ing question, you wouldn't have given me such a **** response. Thanks for nothing.

This is an interesting topic, as addiction treatments are a growing sector of the pharmaceutical industry.

As for keeping someone sober, there is Antabuse (makes alcohol drinkers puke from a sip of liquor), Naltrexone (prevents opioid highs), Revex (nalmefene - same as naltrexone but easier on the liver), and there is a HUGE array of research being done into substances which block cocaine highs, and antibodies which block methamphetamine and MDMA highs.

Clonidine is widely used to detox from opioids...

Beta blockers are used to prevent anxiety from benzo withdrawal.

Benzos are used to prevent seizures from alcohol withdrawal.

There has been some research done into andandamide (sp?) antagonists to prevent marijuana from working.
 
naturalone, yes I read the thread you linked me to but it contained mostly information about specific opiate/opioid withdrawal...I was more concerned with withdrawal in general, and not just from opioids. It did mention Immodium and the nutritional supplement/amino acid DLPA which was helpful. Also, a number of people mentioned using benzo's for withdrawal but I feel like this is just trading one addictiong for another...I stopped heroin cold turkey (late Saturday night was my last dose), Sunday was miserable, and Monday I got Klonopin from my doctor. Now I'm taking between 4 and 8 mg of Klonopin a day, so I guess you can see why I don't think benzo's (at least for me) are the best way to w/d from opiates. But thanks for the link to the thread...it was informative.

But I was looking more for prescription medication used to assist with withdrawal. I was looking for something more like the response I got from who mE? although he gave a lot of examples of drugs that inhibit the action of other drugs (which I wasn't asking for by do find very interesting) instead of ones (like Clonidine) which actual suppress withdrawal symptoms. I know Wellbutrin was very helpful (and even advertised) for quitting smoking but I'm still wondering if it would help withdrawal from other drugs (possibly due to its actions on dopamine.

eh, no big deal. i use UTFSE like saying 'the bathroom is down the hall'. i guess that it can be taken the wrong way. but, i wasn't trying to be offensive. my apologies.

sorry, also, that my thread didn't help. in your original question you mentioned addiction and withdrawals, so i thought that it might be useful.
 
Loperamide (Immodium) works great for me when kicking dope....obviously for the diarrhea primarily, but it seems like it actually helps me feel better all together, so i usually just stick w/that :)

IMPORTANT DRUGS FOR HOME REMEDY OPIATE W/D's USING LEAST DRUGS
<according to me>

Lomotil (Opiate Anti-Diarrhea but schedule V) so Immodium works
Clonodine (blood pressure and w/d symptoms)
%Clonazepam (daytime anxiety)
Temazepam (insomnia)
Phenagren (helps for nasuea)
*Soma (muscle aches and problems)
Soluable B12 (slight boost of energy)

And if needed...

Phenobarbital taper (180mg, 120mg, 60mg, 30mg)
Anti-psychotic med (extreme insomnia)


%I picked this benzodiazepine because it is longer lasting and effective
*This muscle relaxor is far superior to any other

This remedy helps with diarrhea problems, w/d symptoms, chills and flashes, sleeping problems, nasuea, anxiety, and muscle problems with least addiction potential of drugs used
 
how would you say does lomotil compare to loperamide? is it much better at relieving symptoms?
 
I dont think either or will be a major reliever of 'symptoms', when I withdraw my food intake is, 0. My stomach always fucks with me hard on a detox, I find that Compazine (mild traq) used for stomach discomfort helps nicely, it also I guess you could say that it makes any benzos/relazers/etc. that you are taking in your withdrawl-cocktail more potent, well I am kinda saying that wrong but its a traquilizer and so are benzos in combination it helps, huh...?

I personally think PeptoBismo is a better bet than lopermide, shit or even a glass of milk. For small habits maybee there is a difference but fuck if I know...
 
does anyone know the maximun daily dosage for loperamide, when WDing? I read another thread where someone was taking 20 2mg at a time, multiple times in a day....seems a bit unhealthy.

easing withdrawal...

I am suprised only 2 people brought up loperamide [Immodium a d].It has been shown to ease withdrawal symptoms in morphine addicted monkeys.Personally it has not worked for me,nor did clonidine.Benzos work only in calming you and perhaps letting you get an hour or two of much needed sleep.Besides,as at least person has already mentioned,the danger of transferring your addiction is a problem.

In my experience,whenever possible,I wait until the second day of withdrawal.Then I take a 75% equivalent dose of methadone [equivalent to your tolerated dose].The third day I take 50% of my equivalent dose.On the fourth day only 25% if anything.Additionally,when I can,I take Dalmane on the second through fourth days in order to sleep well.

Of course one should always drink as much fluid as possible along with some multi vitamins.
 
Ibogaine for 2 days will clear ANY dopamine addiction right out the fucking window.

Also recommended: GHB, ketamine, 2C-E
