Jesus christ i hate grinding up pods. i've gone through 3 coffee grinders and 1 blender. yeah, pods broke a blender. it was a 20 dollar one from target but still, i didn't think pods would break it.

usually something happens to the blade and when i turn it on, like its not "catching" or something. it wont spin in a even motion and its like pieces are broken from where it connects to the motor. otherwise its broken once that happens.

i started breaking the nub at the stem off now to try to avoid this but i dont know how long its going to last. im so sick of buying new coffee grinders. i always buy the same 20 dollar Mr Coffee Black grinder with exclusive chamber maid cleaning system(?) because it is the easiest to load and holds a good amount. i've been to the same target 5 times in the past 3 months for these damn things.

sorry, had to vent. anyone else burn through coffee grinders?

Larson, about the coffee grinders, I've been using the same ancient Krups grinder (15-20 years old) for 2+ years daily grinding +/- 15 pods a day. I always snap off the nubs though.

My Krups is so old I can't remember how much it cost, but I would highly recommend you invest in one to save yourself money and trouble in the future. Break up your pods really well before you put them in the grinder and "pulse" the pods (like you would do in a food processor) until you have a powder, then hold the grind button down until your pods are the consistency you want.

Wow, lol. I used the same blender for over a year. It was the cheapest blender I could find at Walmart, it was only like $15. I used the damn thing probably on average every other day. I always was waiting for the day when I would press the button and the damn thing would quit on me but it never gave out.

Over time it has started to make excess noises and occasionally if I overload it the blades won't spin at first and it'll make a funny noise. Recently it started to have a "overheating" smell when I operate it but the damn thing has never stopped going. I've been sure for the past couple of months I was gonna need a new one...

Sorry to hear about the grinder/blender problems guys, maybe you need Walmart quality, lol.

the blender I have REEKS of overheating / burning plastic or rubber when i use it. it makes the worst noise i've ever heard too. hurts my ears to use it lol.

they all break the same way. the blade stops spinning like it should. i guess something jammed in between the blade and kept it from spinning, causing it to overheat or just chip away at the piece that spins them. im guessing the nubs did this cause those bitches are hard as fuck. i always strain out the powder later and the nubs would be in the strainer with chips taken out of them. never completely broken up though.

I've tried filtering my pod tea first using a 0 porosity buchner funnel/filter, then triple lab filters and finally a Nalgene 0.2 micron bottle top filter, but this clogs up pretty quickly. Once it's clogged up it becomes useless and I have to throw it away. What sort of filter that is less fine than 0.2 microns should I use before using the Nalgene filters? I really hope someone can answer this.

There are different sizes for micron filters.

I think you can find 0.45 and 0.22 and 0.2. I might be wrong there.

May I ask, why are you trying to filter pod tea? To help with the taste?

My initial thought was "filter with a cotton!" but then I realized you're probably dealing with thousands upon thousands of mL's, instead of like 1/2 mL. So, that's not feasible. Hm....

I'm extracting the morphine. I was thinking of using Celite (diatomaceous earth), but I don't know if that would clog. I have a feeling that even if I were to use another Nalgene bottle top filter with a .45u filter it would also clog just as fast as the .2u Nalgene bottle top filter I'm using.

I don't know what you're trying to filter out (never had PPT myself) but have you tried a spaghetti strainer?

That's WAY too porous unfortunately. Even three lab filters doesn't filter it sufficiently. It has to be finer than that (the lab filters I mean). I'm basically filtering out plant material from the pods themselves.

Good luck on your adventure. I actually don't do too much filtering myself, so I am afraid I can't really be of any service.

OOOOH!

I know where you might want to start looking though.

I remember reading in PD (psychedelic discussion) about IV DMT. The idea is that most DMT originates from mimosa hostilis bark, and that to filter out the plant material would be necessary to IV it.

I think that they probably would have info.

Let me see if I can find the link.

http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=374528

I don't know if I finished reading it, or what the verdict was on IV DMT. I think that the verdict was it had to be synthesized DMT, not originating from mimosa hostilis. I might be wrong.

But this is the only place I would know to look for such info.

I hope this helps man.

Do you know what bubble bags are? They are used to extract resin from cannabis inside a cold water wash. I think I'm not supposed to post a link to something like that, but it's pretty obvious if you google it. Not sure what microns you'd like, but they have a wide variety. They're washable and very reusable. They come with a lifetime guarantee.

They are sold in various sizes. One of the more expensive sets includes:

This kit includes the following:
-5 gallon 25 micron bag
-5 gallon 45 micron bag
-5 gallon 73 micron bag
-5 gallon 90 micron bag
-5 gallon 120 micron bag
-5 gallon 160 micron bag
-5 gallon 190 micron bag
-5 gallon 220 micron bag

There are knock off bags on ebay that are more cheaply constructed but much less expensive.

EDIT: Hmm. For some reason I thought you were talking about 20 micron filters and not 0.2 micron filters. I think the fact that they stop at 25 in the above list is more because that's the lowest useful size for that application. I believe I've heard of at least 11 micron monofilament fabrics from their supplier, not sure where the technology bottoms out at.

2nd EDIT: If anyone else is interested, it turns out you can find fabric bag filters down to 1 micron size at least.

Seems like a lot of people have this problem. My friend had an old Mr. Krups coffee grinder that worked GREAT until half the blade broke. He went to get a new one and found that they still make the same model, only it's supposed to have a more powerful motor now. Well that is TOTAL BS, as this new one is crap. It started breaking down in about a month and now it won't grind for shit.

The answer to his and many of your problems is simple if you can afford it.

Blendtec's site is down right now, but if you have $400 laying around, I guarantee you will not regret this purchase. Check out http://www.willitblend.com/ for some demos. I doubt any pod could break this thing.

that would be sweet, but 400 dollars. i could stay high for the next 3 months with 400 dollars rofl.
