Mega Merged: Ultimate poppy pod/seed tea thread (getting the most out of your pods)

If it's just that the seeds are brown, I keep it. But if they stick to the inner walls of the pod then it's probably just starting to mold, in which case I'd toss it. I like when I find the little flower inside pods though, feels like a fortune cookie. :)

lol. My wife saves the flowers sometimes. It is like finding a little treasure =)

I've plugged the tea a few times with pretty nice results, but I was curious if one could also plug finely filtered powder mixed into water. I'm sure that like when taken orally, that the come on would be a lot slower, but does it have fairly decent overall BA?

OMG

So I was pretty bored and well I've found that you can get a high or something from these pods in making tea... (wish I new about this earlier).

Anyway, I've never had these pods before, opium or any pain killer (panadol only) so my tolerance would be very low.

Unfortunately I have no idea what pods look like or where to get them and am not really interested in finding out where to get any but I also read you can have "poppy seed tea". Where you go to the supermarket and buy these poppy seeds and make tea out of it, I have the recipe.

So a few questions please:

Could you please give me some tips and tricks I could use when making this tea?
Are they just the black poppy seeds you buy at the local super market for baking cakes with?
How many grams of poppy seeds should I use?
How long till I feel the effects?

Sorry if this sounds stupid but this cheap high sounds to good to be true (even though it is) and am very curious about it all before I try it in a few hours.

Cheers!

Good seeds are hard to come by. Most are washed, which takes away what you want. Try an organic/health food store. If you a first timer, try washing a pound and see what a glass or two does. Start light, and if it doesn't get you where you want to go, get a littler heavier in your dosage, but BE SAFE. Better a half assed buzz and alive than stoned to death!:\And yes, they are just breadseed poppys, right in the spice aisle of any grocery store.

So would it be best to crush them all to powder first~?
Can the powder still turn mouldy?

1) Absolutely. The finer the powder, the greater the amount of surface area which is exposed to the water and the more efficient the extraction of morphine and other alkaloid goodies.

2) I would presume the powder could still turn moldy if stored in damp conditions... but I've never left any lying around long enough for that to happen =D

I'm just gonna quote myself from another thread. I didn't feel like typing it twice, and there's an extraction process for extracting a smoke-able product from dried pods for those who are interested.

from what i've gathered an a/b extraction on dried pods (or seeds) yields nothing.
I've been looking all over the interwebs for a fairly easy pod extraction and can't find anything that yields a smoke-able final product. (besides the link below)
There was part of a tek someone described in the big and dandy pod thread but i don't feel like reading through 20 something pages for an incomplete tek. but from what i remember, apparently by adjusting pH, morphine freebase will precipitate out of the solution then it's just evap-ing, or turning it into its salt form. if anyone knows this tek please share (not the vague and complicated tek that is on the shroomery and other sites). I'm positive that if there was a simple tek that yielded a product of decent purity, junkies everywhere would rejoice.

the below method probably works (i don't know first hand) but from reading it, i feel like i'd mess it up somehow.

Besides chemical extractions there is http://forum.poppies.org/index.php?showtopic=10089&hl=

I hope this helps someone out. and please correct me if i'm wrong about an A/B on pods, but i'm pretty sure it doesn't work.

edit: another tek with a similar method and a better explanation IMO: http://adh.2.forumer.com/index.php?s...t=0&#entry1019

I might have to try this......someday. After doing the google, this method seems pretty straight forward. if anyone has good results, please share.

last edit i promise: from the above tek "Acid or base addition is unnecessary and unwanted because of possible decomposition of the maleate salt,
into possibly less soluble constituents."

For those not experienced enough to recognize, the above poster is either joking or ignorant. Moldy pods can make you very, very sick--I speak from experience. 8o

You're from Australia. There are places you can find poppy seeds that will work, the supermarket ones won't really do the trick most of the time. There are some who have had quite bad reactions to the supermarket variety in fact, possibly because of a high thebaine content.

I suggest you check out the poppy seed tea thread in Australian Drug Discussion for a regional specific thread which may assist you in getting experiences and suggestions.

As for poppy pods, yes they are very hard to find in this country; I managed to get my hands on them once and that was very lucky.

So the other day I went to the bakery and asked for 300 grams of poppy seeds as they didn't have any in the store, the women working just gave me a weird look, I went on to tell her I was cooking a heap of muffins... haha.

Anyway, I made it into poppy seed tea and it worked, well I found it hard to walk, was slow in re acting to things, kinda just really spaced out, so all in all it was pretty good.

BUT BUT BUT

The next morning I woke up with this HORRIBLE HORRIBLE head ache, like realllly bad, so I put up with it all day and then last night I went back to bed. Usually when I have a head ache and wake up it usually is gone by the next morning.

This morning I woke up and it was still there, same pain as yesterday, I have had heaps of asprin but it doesn't want to go away! Aghhhhhhh

Could this be some serious side affect? Or am I over re-acitng?

thanks!

I have made tea with moldy pods many times and never noticed anything bad about the effects.

I've heard of headaches as a side-effect of too much morphine or other opioids... but a two day headache from seed tea? I haven't heard of that before. Instead of aspirin, have you tried APAP or ibuprofen?

Still up but the headache is slowly going away... Only have aspirin and panadol, should be gone by tomorrow.

I probably had to much for my first time, lol.

Smooth pods

I've been running across a lot of smooth pods mixed in with the purple tazmanias. I've never seen pods as smooth as these are. They are basicly the same shape, just have a smoother shell. Not quite as mottled as the tasmanias. Anybody have any experience with these? Overall, everything seems to be much weaker than usuall. I don't know if it's because of a growing tolerance, or maybe these smooth pods aren't really p somniferums?

Little treasures...

lol. My wife saves the flowers sometimes. It is like finding a little treasure =)

To prevent being merged I figured I would post my findings/inquiry here. Anyway I may have stumbled upon a new topic of interest here, among all topics from consumption, extraction, cooking, taste, etc. As I was saying, being aware of pesticides, possible potency issues, and Pods ws. Seeds preference...almost everything possible has been attempted during the study of these little jokers by this poppie mad scientist I know.
To the point, while down in the laboratory the other day, he was in the middle of checking this batch of left over Pod seed tea that he had in the refrigerator. Being as though he had already cooked(thank goodness) and was running low on Pod resources, he opened a batch of emergency stash to drink. While looking down into the white plastic container, he noticed floating on top of the now settled black seeds was the usually expected milky/transparent fluid. Anyway, before shaking(re-straining)the tea for possible consumption he ran across a "little treasure"8o...(Walla!!)miniscule, dead , white larva that had floated to the top of the undisturbed black seeds. Yes!! Fucking discusting, no other way to put it.
Any other peeps familiar with such? Have a pretty good idea they are in them all, maybe not grocery store, pod products. New to me but just thought I would share the info obtained. Maybe peeps should think about the temp. they make their Pod/Seed tea, or cold water extracts period, or maybe even pluggin'(just doesn't settle right with me, pluggin' worms up my ass)...atleast Quervo(alcohol) kills the worm germs. Hah! And peeps are worried about the taste!!

I've only had 3-4 moldy pods in my batches (thousands of pods.) But I haven't chanced it with my tea. I mean, If you're buying 100 at a time and using it for maintenance, why risk it with a moldy pod?

I mean, the bad pods were obviously rank as hell: filthy blue, hairy mold, so I just threw them out. I can't quite imagine adding one of those molded pods into my brew. I mean, they're obviously nasty as hell according to sight and smell.

I have noticed that pod tea goes bad QUICK. I don't know if it's a result of living in an age of pasteurized juice/milk or what, but if I make that shit and try to save it even for 2 days, it gets moldy as hell real quick. And in a very disturbing way. You know how your old-ass pasta gets some white mold on it or whatever. This shit gets all kinds of colors of mold and quick. (Shit. Just read the above post about worms. Wouldn't be surprise, my best guess is that the good pod material is NOT radiated or sprayed or any of that shit.)

And even when I'm sick, I'm wary of the moldy pods. I can't imagine w/ds and whatever sickness I'd get from the moldy shit. W/ds are bad enough, thanks.

Yeah I have never had a moldy one like that. Just ones that had a bit gray discoloration, looked a bit fuzzier than it should have where it was gray, and the insides smelled mustier than normal pods do.

I've also never had a lot of pods, usually just get a few dozen at a time, so it kinds of sucks to throw away any.
