[MEGA] Hash/Honey Oil Extraction Thread

Ok for starters I didn't call it Hash oil cause im not sure what im thinking of is hash oil.

So Ive been reading up on how to make THC oil and ive been told its much much stronger than just smoking weed.

SO this guys says soak your weed in alittle bit of Everclear and then poor out the THC soaking everclear( minus the bud of course) and then boil it down to a thickish liquid. of course on a electric stove. Then you scoop out some and pritty much just smoke it....read for the details.

So basicly want I wan't to know is will this work? why do you need 90% alchoal
and has anyone tried anything like this before? share with me?

I have made what was called qwiso (Quick Wash ISOpropyl) oil (from overgrow)

It is somewhat similar to what you describe, but I'd say it would give a better result.

First you grind your weed up and put it in a bottle (600ml Coke bottle or something)

Add 99% isopropyl alcohol until weed is covered, plus an extra centimeter or 2.

Shake bottle as hard as you can for 1 to 2 minutes.

Pour out and filter out weed through coffee filter

Let alcohol evaporate, or help it with a hair dryer.

This will leave a nice golden oil, perfect for adding to bowls or spreading on joints.

If you let the weed soak in the alcohol for much longer then a few minutes it will dissolve some chlorophyll from the weed and leave a worse quality black oil.
 
Both ways will work, but I prefer bubble hash. The only chemical it uses is H2O. No need for any alcohols.

Whenever I have made iso-hash I've never ended up with an oil. It's always a thick and hard clump of hash!

whats the best way to smoke it when it gets hard like that? just put in a pipe and light it? do you try and melt it down?
 
I use everclear, and add the oil to poor quality schwag. I basically turn it into 5x weed.
 
In all my years of smoking I never knew it was that simple, or at least seemingly. And funnily enough I've never researched it either. I know what's happening this weekend :) Cheers for the link man

haha no problem..but actully id like you to let me know how it goes this weekend isan't gonna work for me to try but any info you have from making it would be great!
 
why use everclear when denatured alcohol is cheaper and available at 99% pure? personally, butane extraction makes the best honey/hash oil. i've tried qwiso a time or two and it was really inferior compared even to the BHO that i've extracted from MOLDY buds. now that's something qwiso can't even accomplish! butane: really well worth the effort. just make sure you are well aware of the precautions you need to take and safety won't even be an issue
 
i would check out the butane honey hash oil technique..it seems pretty fool proof if you have enough trim/buds lying around.

in short, you basically fill up a PVC* tube with weed, cap it on both ends with holes in the cap, shoot butane (from lighter refill cannisters) into one end, and out the other end drips pure amber hash oil.

*edited due to concerns from other posters..do not use PVC as the site says, in stead use metal...thanks for the info guys as the whole PVC thing hadn't crossed my mind.

blah! i definitely would never use PVC. I don't know why erowid would suggest it. it does say at the bottom of the page that 'express has been concerned about safety of pvc blah blah' but then goes on to say that "some reliable chemists have stated that PVC should be resistant to butane" ummm. I'm not yet a 'reliable chemist,' but I do know that most plastics are susceptible to degrading from extreme temperatures and while PVC may not suffer from the solvent properties of butane at room temperature, i'd bet money that it would as it turns brittle at the insanely low temperatures butane will create in the tube extremely fast. Personally, I find that new copper tubing (the type that carries water in virtually all western households) works best as it doesnt leech anything (hey, if you get both freezing cold and scalding hot water from the tap through it, it's gotta be safe for a few hundred butane extractions) and it's small diameter lets you get the most THC out of your first wash.
 
There are footnotes advising on use of metal, which I agree with cos you dont want any scummy residue making its way through.











My Brain is dead at the moment however.

Me neither. The only plastics I'd recommend using would be polypropylene or polyethylene, they don't react with butane. I use them myself as well.

havent read or seen many people on here talking about cannabis oil
im just interested if any1 has any info on how well different extraction techniques work and the relative purity/impurity of the final product..?
when doing alcohol extractions are you getting mostly pure THC or other cannabinoids as well...?

im not asking for extraction techniques as such mate,im more than aware of several techniques that work extremely well!
im just interested whether any1 has any papers or info on how well these extractions actually work and the purity of the final product from using different techniques.....?

i myself prefer to do an iso-butane extraction...;)
 
iso-butane? isn't it kind of pointless to use both ethanol AND butane? Purity depends for both... the highest purity comes from a quick wash where only THC is stripped by the solvent and the result looks like honey but you get more product that's just as noticeable in effect if you do more than one wash and end up with more chlorophyll and other plant shit in your product
 
Run butane through a tube of weed. Then let the bho drip out. Then soak the weed from the tube in the ISO to get the last bit outta it with ethanol.
