yeah, i know high school chem and college chem will be different but i'm going to take a few chem courses for the two years i gotta go to junior college. so i guess i could see by the end of that if i'm still interested...i dont know.
 
I read a post here a while back that stuck with me.

It was something like..

Do you really like science and are really good at it? Like, enjoy reading about it as a hobby and going through books, magazines, ect. that focus on the sciences? Also, do you enjoy and are really solid in your maths?

Lastly, are you interested in the science of drugs or do you just really like to get high and learn how they basically work?

FYI: Knowing that methamphetanine is a DARI and neurotoxic due to inhibiting serotonin as well, is just basic and superficial knowledge. Go keep up with the cats in advanced drug discussion for a better feel of what I'm saying.
 
The thing you have to realize is that nobody is innately good at chemistry. Some people learn quicker than others, but chemistry is not like math where you might have natural ability or not. Nobody goes into a good general or organic chem course and aces it without putting in any effort. If you're not willing to completely devote yourself to your studies, you should just forget about going into any scientific field. It's a lot of work and there are no shortcuts.

If you're simply interested in getting high, stick to recreational drug use and keep it separate from your career. I'm not trying to accuse you of anything, I'm simply saying that if you enter a field like psychopharmacology with anything but the purest intentions it WILL land you in a pile of shit.
 
any med students/ doctors on here?

Longtime lurker on bluelight, but finally signed up.

I'm in 3rd yr grad medicine, female 25.
Did some crazy things in my teens.. loved LSD, DMT, coke, mshrooms.

Currently on an SSRI for depression, but also take some benzos.
Love the benzos esp. bromazepam. I still play around with some psychadelics when I can get my hands on them.

I want to become a psychiatrist, not just for easy access to the good stuff ;), but i genuinely want to help people farked up by mental illness. Growing up with a mother with bipolar and father pissing off at a young age, being abused by step-father, I've been through hell.

Any med students studying psych, or or psychs on here? Do you like your specialty?
 
if there are, I would hope that they are too smart to admit that they are doctors or med students on a public messageboard about recreational drugs.
 
I think u would be suprised as to how many med student & docs are into shit you wouldn't believe. My own psychiatrist has told me about his own issues with benzos as a med student.

Public message boards.... i dont worry about that. Its all anonymous.
 
In terms of psychology: two obvious options: become a clinical psychologist and do counselling for drug users, or become a research psychologist looking at the effects of drugs on human behaviour.

Both courses will require a significant amount of post-graduate study, and you will have to be near the top of your classes (certainly in order to become a clinical psychologist). This will entail being reasonably good at university-level statistics.

Easier options might include working for harm reduction groups.
 
toa$t, why would anyone care about a forum user saying he/she is a doctor? You think someone is going to investigate that claim? And what then, is it illegal to be a doctor and Bluelight user at the same time?
 
No just a psych student. But it gives me info. into a lot of the drugs used in that area.
 
I'll be going to med school if I decide to man up and go into psychiatry. Admitting involvement in illegal use of drugs can be really bad news for practicing physicians, but I don't see how it could be any trouble to a med student.

The authorities focus their worry on guys with the power to prescribe. Most doctors have (at least!) some illegal drug use in their past.
 
i've been an RN for more than 20yrs. everyday i work i am tempted but there is no drug on the planet that is worth losing my career.
however, i've known several dozen co-workers who have not been able to deal w/ the temptation and subsequently lost their licenses. there's a time and a place for everything but there is no room for addict behavior in a healthcare setting.
if your motivation for a career in healthcare is because of easy access to narcotics do yourself a favor and pick another field of study.

Yes i agree. Enjoy playing around as a med student... it gets riskier once you're qualified and prescribing.

Med school is great. Alot of work, but worth it.
I wanted to specialise in emergency medicine (i love high pressure situations/adrenalin rush), but am now leaning towards psych for many reasons. I think psych is an excellent area to specialize in if you want an easy lifestyle.
 
You need to decide whether you just like getting high or you (perhaps also) have a burning interest in psychopharmacology. If it truly is just the former, you're not going to make a sound decision.
