Im pretty sure HPS causes MORE stretching than MH in Veg, If I'm correct MH is used for vegging and HPS is used for Flowering. But to each his own.

I dont plan on chopping my plants....

As for topping , well, my outdoor plant is topped, and Im pretty sure this one indoor got topped ( just very late)

Got my outtake and exhaust setup today, didn't do much for temps though...brought it down from 91 to 89...lol Still debating on whether to cut a hole in my closet or no...hmm...decisions decisions

lol, Yes, my walls are flat white.

I will be doing SCROG next grow, If I get the time to get around to it...

BigSteve, I know you didnt want to 'read up' the whole thread, but most of this has been covered in the earlier pages, though I know its a bitch to read through and find, there is lots of useful information. Thanks for bringing some info & opinions to the thread, do you have any proof of MH causing more stretching than HPS?

You're correct. MH because of it's light being on the blue end of the spectrum gives a shorter intermodal distance and therefore shorter, stockier plants. Because the plants bolt quite considerably at the start of flower for best results it is recommended that you continue to use MH for the first two weeks of flower. It is not uncommon for plants to double or even triple in size in early flower! If you don't believe me measure the growth in the first two weeks of flower!

Training shoul really be done in veg mainly rather than during bloom.

Prelude, are you extracting the air into the attic? Did you have the intake vent open/installed when you were running the fan? These are important factors and if you could clarify exactly what you've done I might be able to help.

You did that fast P2T2, Awesome! If you use AC in your bedroom, an intake hole (with a small fan) in the closet door should bring the temps down another 5 degrees or so. Also, not sure how cold it gets for you in the winter, but the same logic will apply when you want to increase the temperature.
If you are concerned about replacing the door, go ahead and look for replacements now. You can get the measurements and see if you can get one the same size for a good price. This way, if you mess up, you can just install the original door back on again. Good luck!

Um, ever since installing my exhaust fan, my plant has been wilting VERY badly, all of the leaves are just drooping down like, they're dying, anyone know what to do? this looks like it could go bad very quickly if I dont fix it, Someone help please...

The soil is still moist and wet, the temps are 82 right now, and its still wilting, idk what to do...

Coming along nicely there Prelude :)

I agree with AE on the MH/HPS issue.

Bigsteve - Even though im sure you've grown in the past, im finding it hard to take your post's seriously.

Go on any decent Marijuana forum, and you'll see the consensus is that MH makes for tighter bushier plants, over HPS.

And what exactly do you mean when you say you reccomend chopping the canopy down to make things level? Have you not heard of LST, or supercropping?

I just re examined my plants and this time my opinion is they stretch the same. I kept measuring internodes and they kept being the gosh darn same.

I measured the internodes that are at the tip of branch and then the nodes going away. I would measure 4 of them and then compare to the other 4. And they just kept being the darn same!

My thing I'm thinking about now is wherever it gets really good light always grows the same if its HID. but as you get away from that bulb I think thats where the difference in stretching might take place. I'm gonna go check out my plants and maybe tomorrow I'll have some more ideas.

If I didn't look at the node regions that were near the tip of branch it seems that the MH looked stretchier. This grow I've also noticed a kind of stretching thats different from what I've seen before I'll try to explain later I think. But I think it comes along with the crying plants I been getting. Crying with happiness! If you know what I mean you know what i mean.

Well, Either way you look at it, mixing spectrums seem to be the best thing to do for your plant... From what Ive been told Mixing MH and HPS bulbs / spectrums make a healthier plant.
Could be wrong, Ill be finding out on my next mother plant.

So, 85 degrees....Is that going to be too hot to flower?

And are your plants in seperate rooms? Or are you just changing bulbs for a few days...
Who knows.
I haven't had much experience growing, so , I cant say anything from experience...
Just from what I've read ...lol

This is what I was thinking but I didn't want to sound rude. The part where he was talkng about getting good results from withholding water from the plants put me off (this is the impression I got, unless this isn't what he meant!). I'm all for people sharing their opinions and experiences but people sometimes copy your techniques and if you're spreading misinformation and counterproductive advice this is not on IMO.

Perhaps Bigsteve has been misunderstood. If so I hope he can contribute positively!

For sure AE.

You know not many folk growers in CD know about the Cannabis entry for the Wiki section on PS. That thread would do alot better as a sticky up the top of CD IMO.

I also think with the ammount of knowledge some folk around here know that that can all be put to good use in each topic.

Prelude, as for the wilting, are you using the wet/dry technique when watering? I not you could be missing out on yield and quality. You can't tell if the soil down below is dry from lookig at the surface - you need to pick the pot up and feel the weight in you hands. Overwatering can cause wilting in the same way as underwatering.

It was underwatered, and yes , Im letting it dry out before I water it again.
I just handn't thought about the fact that I had three 11 hour days at work, and just went home and started working on the duct work, and what not, and kind of neglected my poor little plant a little, lol, but I did water it, with nutes, and it perked right back up, I changed my lighting from 60% of 600watts to 75% of 600 watts, the temps havent gotten too bad, but I've noticed that the exhaust isn't really doing much work, should I have a stronger fan blowing air up from the floor through the light and towards the exhaust, or should air just flow naturally. ..I have the exhaust fan up high in the closet, and in the back right corner, should I move it closer to the light?

I got pictures today of me behind my biggest baby tomorrow I'll get it uploaded and when you see how I do you guys won't be trying to hate.

No one was hating, they tried to make that clear, everybody here probably grows a little bit different than the next.

Yeah well my e-dick is bigger than yours anyway! J/k! lol.

Prelude, have you got your main exhaust separate from the hood ventilation?

edit: also, have you gotten your carbon filter yet? If so, what type did you get?

I thought I'd post a nice little story I found on another forum. The guy had three plants but even one will cause problems just the same!

This is my third attempt to sit down and write about what happened to me, it's really difficult but I feel I owe it to the forum to share my experience after having gained so much from UK420.

Hopefully, some of you out there will learn from my stupidity and avoid the mistakes I made. Here we go.

A few months ago I was given a 400w hps which belonged to my sister's ex. Me and the missus decided to have a shot at a grow, she has arthritis in both knees and is waiting for surgery, she can't walk or stand for more than a few minutes and I've had to quit work to help to look after her, we found that having weed helped with her pain somewhat, more importantly it helped to pass the time and stopped us going mad with frustration at not being able to go anywhere or do anything.

We've been stuck in limbo for months and months, marking time, waiting for the NHS to get round to helping her. We found weed to be a great help and support, keeping Mrs Robot calm and providing a bit of distraction from the shitty hand she has been dealt. She is on DLA and I have no income, so being permanently skint we got fucking sick of paying through the nose for shitty green, so the decision was made. A grow of our own.

We didn't know what we were doing so we had a quick look round the net for advice, ordered the cheapest seeds we could get hold of, got some pots and some John Innes. The seeds arrived, and we were off. Neither of us really knowing what to expect.

We germinated 3 seeds, got them into pots and set them up under the light in our storage cupboard. To start with, we fucked up. The pots were too small and the plants suffered, none of the american grow sites we'd looked at really mentioned or emphasized the importance of potting on. Then I found UK420 and we realised what was wrong. We repotted and the plants recovered beautifully, and grew, and grew, and grew!

They showed sex. All female! What a result for a first time grow, we were well chuffed, but starting to worry about the smell. By this time we had 3 four footers in our cupboard, with the odour growing stronger every day. You could smell it all over the flat and whiffs of it were seeping out of our front door.

It worried me, but at this time you could only smell it if you were standing right near our front door, I told myself that nobody would notice or care, stuck a rolled up towel to the gap under the door, got some air freshener, and carried on.

A couple more weeks went by, our girls were flowering well, and I got my first inkling of disaster. I was speaking to this bloke who had been visiting a flat in my block. Out of the blue he says ''I reckon someone's growing buds in your block mate you can smell it all over the hallway.''

After a long sleepless night I went out and bought a load of masking tape and attempted to seal up the front door with it, as well as setting up a fan to try and blow the smell back into the flat I also bought some strong, pungent smelling disinfectant called Zoflora, and took to sneaking out at night and sprinkling it around the lobby like holy water, trying to mask the smell.

It didn't really work, the smell was increasing all the time as the buds grew. I should have taken the grow down there and then but we were a month away from chopping and I just couldn't do it. We kept going, praying for our luck to hold out for just a few more weeks.

A couple more weeks passed, i was in the local shop and one of the staff (who I went to school with) came up to me saying ''who's growing killer weed in your block mate? fuckin stinks you can smell it in vicky's flat'' (the flat directly above mine).

Well obviously I was paranoid as fuck but we were less than two weeks from cropping. We'd already cropped the smallest weakest plant early and the other two were looking beautiful. We'd also planted two more from bagseed and were growing them on 12-12 to see what happened. Just a few more days. Surely noone would bust us now?

Another week passes and we crop our second biggest plant, and hang it. By this time we were feeling extremely pleased with ourselves, we were looking at a possible 5-6 ounce yield on our first grow!

Friday 30th October, around ten to three in the afternoon, I was fast asleep in the bedroom, the missus was sitting in the living room having a spliff.

BANG BANG BANG BANG!

She ignored the door, but the knocking goes on for ages. Next thing she knew there was a policeman and our housing officer standing at the balcony door, staring in at her. Stoned and blindsided, she went to the door and opened it.
The housing officer did the talking, saying that she'd been informed that we were growing or smoking it in the flat and asking to come in and look in the cupboard. Not knowing what to do, she let them in, and that was it, game over, we were fucked.

''Mick''
SNORE
''Mick!''
''Whaaaa?''
''The police are here, they know about the grow''

Not a very nice way to be woken up, believe me!

Stumbling out of the bedroom in my pants to find a housing officer and a copper staring at me, 4 feet away from our stinking grow cupboard really isn't going to go down as a high point in my life. Copper asks me where the plants are and I open up the cupboard. You should have seen the cunt's face light up!

Long story short, he calls in for a van and another sergeant shows up. They take the plants, my light, the drying crop hanging up, two grinders and the potted remnants of the two plants that we'd already chopped. We're told to appear the next day at the police station. The housing officer tells us we'll be hearing from her, and they were gone, leaving me not the smallest bit of trim to roll up and calm our nerves.

Yesterday we went for the interview, he got Mrs Robot in first and me straight after, making sure that we didn't speak to each other when she came out and I went in. Not a problem as we already had our stories straight and it was an open and shut thing. I was questioned as to why? how? were you planning to sell it? All that bollocks. I managed to keep my composure and give him frank honest answers. I came away feeling cautiously hopeful that we'd get off with a caution.

The bigger worry is that the housing association will evict us, we've got some serious fast talking and arse kissing to do but I'm inclined to think that with Mrs Robot's medical problems and the fact that it wasn't a roomful of plants, we'll get off with a final warning. Fingers crossed!

So now here I am, two days ago I was nearing the end of a wildly successful first grow and had enough smoke to last until the new year, last night I spent half an hour picking tiny bits off the carpet to scrape together enough for a bong hit. Crazy how fast things change!

I'm veering between feeling angry, depressed, lost, defiant, guilty and terrified. I've enjoyed growing more than I've enjoyed anything for years, I'd love to try again, and use my brain this time, but I doubt Mrs Robot will ever let me after what's happened. I'm right back at the bottom of the food chain again, scrabbling round kowtowing to lowlives, paying ten pound a gram for underweight, shit weed, and it really is a bitter, bitter pill to swallow.

I know it's bad netiquette, but....

IF YOU'RE READING THIS, AND CONSIDERING A GROW, YOU HAVE TO GET A CARBON FILTER. YOU HAVE TO ERADICATE THE SMELL. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL, PEOPLE WILL SMELL IT, YOU WILL BE GRASSED, YOU WILL BE CAUGHT. I THOUGHT I DIDN'T NEED IT. NOW I'VE GOT NO WEED, I COULD END UP IN COURT AND COULD LOSE MY FLAT.

GET THAT FILTER

PROTIP: Even if *you* think that 'it doesn't smell that much', trust the fact that there *will* be people who can smell it a lot better that you can.

¡NEVER GROW WITHOUT A CARBON FILTER!

Still looking for filters...

Is this you agreeing with what we've said?

Id like to know why you would chop the canopy to the same level? Im assuming your not supercropping but using scissors? If so, I wouldnt be coming on here saying your the dogs balls and that you've got years of growing experience behind you. You may just, but coming out with a comment like that makes you look like a retard to any half decent grower that understands chopping ANYTHING from the main bud sites is BAD

And where are your pics mate? So far it seems like your full of it :\

Coming along nicely Prelude, she's looking very happy. Are you going to tye her out a bit more for flowering?

I know we've had our disagreements but I definitely agree with you on this one. Even the most experience growers show at least some modesty since there's always someone who's better apt at growing. Experience doesn't count for shit I'm afraid. There are people who manage to get better results consistently after 18 months of growing as people who have been growing for decades!

Knowledge is worth more than experience and cannabis grows in spite of what a lot of growers do to their plants rather than because of their efforts. It is a weed after all.

By the way, I just started to read Ed Rosenthall's 'Marijuana Grower's Handbook' and I have to say, it is very very good. It has everything you really need to know. It's much better (and more accurate) than that Jorge Cervantes crap.
